New store manager who sucks at scheduling and I suck at speaking up for myself (Advice?) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by raisincinnamonloaf
Hey guys, so I’ve been with my store for about six months now. We recently got a new manager and he is really bad at scheduling. So I’ve slowly been cut down to only working one day a week, usually a Saturday. I usually work Thursday through Saturday on closing shift due to my class schedule. I’m a college student with some bills and can’t afford losing the hours. The issue is when people ask him for more hours, he will over schedule them even outside of their availability. He has done this to some shift managers too. He is scheduling me and others less to let minors close. So he is pushing a lot of people out to let others in who can’t close because of school. Every time we confront the new manager about weird scheduling, he gives odd excuses. There’s a lot more issues with him and how he is running the store, but that’s not the point.
I have really bad anxiety that gets in the way of me confronting him about my issues, or asking anyone else for help.
At this point I’m thinking of just looking for a new job. I would transfer but all of the other stores are small and aren’t hiring, I’ve checked for the past few weeks. I’m hoping some of y’all might have some advice? I don’t know what to do.
Also I’m sorry if this is hard to read, I’m not good at putting my thoughts into words.
EDIT: I walked out mid shift after I found out I was taken off the schedule completely. My mom came in to escort me out.
My shift went batshit and threw her headset at the wall and cursed at me, acting as though I planned it all out to spite her. She already knew I was having scheduling issues, but acted like this was all news to her to embarrass me in front of my mom, costumers, and former coworkers. She had a habit of taking her anger out on her coworkers though, so I want too shocked.
I know it wasn’t the best way to handle the situation, but considering my next two checks would be $50 max and I had college payments to make, I just couldn’t stay.
