Why misspelled names on cups?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cygenta
There are some rule book that said something like "on a X% of clients orders put misspelled names in the cups"? As a teacher of marketing and advertising I suppose that could be a nice practice to get photos and post on social media. Thanks in advance.

1) people don't speak up when asked for their name 2) there are literally a million ways to spell Kaitlin (among other names) 3) during a rush no one wants to spend time to backspace to fix a misspelling 4) I once asked for someone's name and they said "no thanks" and we both moved on from it

Are you asking if Starbucks tells its employees to misspell the name on purpose? Cause they don't

Yes. That's my question.

Yes, we’re intentional misspelling names and making certain we hit our quota just for likes online 🙄
The only folks who spell their name are, “b-o-b! BOB! Just bob!!!!”, “my name’s Amy? A-m-yyyy”, and old ladies whose name starts with K.
Do you have a thick accent and a long name? Bummer lady, your Russian cusses under your breath were the only thing you were clear with. I’m not gonna tell you how many variations some names have, but people are a lot more likely to shout and whine about their misspelled name when it’s a variant of their spelling and doesn’t matter phonetically.

Or people who talk with a very very thick accent, so for example your name might be Paula but if you’re from Spain and pronouncing it the way you’d say it in Spain (“Pah-oooooooh-lah”), I might not recognize it right away. Also very ethnic names. Also, the coffee grinding machine is loud and sometimes “Kurt” sounds like “Kirk” and stuff
