Transferred from a corporate store to a licensed target!(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by eyeileen
Hello friends! I worked at one of my local corporate stores (the busiest one in my area) for close to a year, took some time off of the bux game and just got hired at target Starbucks! I start in a few days and I’m curious what to expect for differences? I know it’ll be less hectic and I’ll be alone more often, but I’m wondering differences in the menu (such as what my new store might not have compared to corp) or anything else to expect. <3 thanks!! ps what I’m most excited about is that dank almost $4 more an hour ;^)

Depends on the target/area. I work at the Bux in a super target and we get hella busy. And I'm never by myself. One difference right now is that we don't have the tiered rewards system; we're only able to accept 150 star rewards for whatever. We also aren't able to sell as much coffee & merch as corporate stores. But it's a good job w/ higher pay, like you said. Plus target is upping they're pay to $15 by the end of 2020. Fingers crossed you like it!

There will be less food items and the drinks might be more expensive. I work at a tarbux and always get told that we should have more food items for being more pricey than a normal sbux

I’ve worked at a Tarbucks in the Midwest suburbs for almost 3 years now!! I personally love it and feel that I get to know my regulars much more quickly as we’re less busy. Don’t get me wrong, we have some VERY hectic peak times! But for the most part things are very manageable :) I personally love the alone time I get closing and opening at my store (we only ever double during mids bc we’re understaffed and don’t have the hours to have 2 baristas all the time) Some annoying things: it can be hard to keep up with stock bc we can’t store as much and at least for my store our team can be disorganized. We’ve had a few Team Lead changes even just since I’ve worked there which can be stressful. Also, for my store we have so few hours to give that training is extremely stressful and never really done correctly so we end up with baristas that are scheduled on their own too early and just have to learn from mistakes. Also, having managers in the store who don’t understand your needs and the dynamics of Starbucks can be very frustrating. It’s important to have an assertive Team Lead that will vouch for your team and really knows who to lead. Oh and no label machines...so my team honestly rarely writes on the cups lol we just listen to the customer if there’s 2 of us and we pretty much have to be switching off operating every area in order to keep up with lines and maintain a quick workflow. And being by yourself requires lots of multitasking and diligent time management, which is a challenge I personally love :) Despite some mild-moderate dysfunction, I fucking love being a Tarbucks barista :-) I enjoy the responsibility, higher pay, and opportunity to also train in other areas of Target. I’ve learned so much and I love building friendships with the other MANY Target team members. I also love being able to have time for more genuine guest service conversations and interactions during slow times... We don’t get tips tho! Customers ask where our tip jar is EVERY. SHIFT. Hope this response helped :-)

This sounds a lot like my new store! I’m still technically “in training” so I have yet to be alone, but I really enjoy it so far. It’s quiet and less stressful from my old constantly busy Corp store, which I like a lot. I’m happy to have a positive response about working at a licensed targ store cause I’ve always only seen negatives about licensed stores. Which of course it seems quite more hectic in ways it doesn’t need to be but I find it very manageable . :^)

Wow that suck. I worked at a license store once before applying for a corporate one. Not fun. Mostly there by yourself. Nights aren’t great too
