Doctor note for using sick hours ? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TheYuriBarista
My manager just informed us that the company has noticed that partners have been using sick hours for their vacation, and that going forward "in most cases a doctor note will be required." Is this legitimate? Like could my manager really deny the use of sick hours if we don't have a note? My manager has made up things before, so it just seems fishy 🤔

If sick time is used frequently, I think they are allowed to ask for a doctors note. They’re technically not allowed to ask for a doctors note unless it’s for a couple days in a row or even weeks of time off. I would look into your Starbucks employee manual or maybe even talk to corporate about that

In washington state a company cannot legally request a note from a doctor unless it's been 3 or more days gone

I believe it is if three consecutive days are missed or if you have to go on a medical leave. I just did the annual training for sick time and Starbucks explicitly stated they don't want to force partners to get doctors notes for one day because it's time consuming and costly for the partner.

If you're having trouble with your SM I would check the Hub for the policy or call partner resources support center. If ever you have a question about policy give them a call
