Advice on becoming a shift supervisor? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by remmboi
I've been here since August, most of the partners that have been here as long/longer than me are either, already shift, moving to a different location, looking for different work, etc.
I feel like I'd be good at it. And I sort of have a game plan, but also tips from actual shifts would be nice.

Hey! Well, I’m a newish shift. I started at Starbucks early 2017 and moved up to being a shift March 1st if this year.
Honestly, you need to be honest with you SM and let them know you’d like to become one. It’s a lot more work. Like omg. But just be kind and strong and ask as many questions in the beginning as you can. I suggest seeing if you can get at least 2 Shift trainers, bc everyone does everything slightly different. So you can see kind of what feels right to you. Like regarding ordering, money management and partner things. Also, feel free to message me or anyone else on the app. Lots of things to learn. You’re not alone! ⭐️

Thank you!! I've definitely been mentioning that I'm interested in the shift position. And my SM is wanting to give me more hours, which is great.
I've been pulling my weight a lot extra so I cam prove I'd be a good one. Helping out the green beans, and constantly keeping myself busy and checking on how other patners are doing. Is this a good way to prove my capabilities?

Absolutely. I was certified as a barista trainer and it really helped me feel stronger as a barista. And that’s so important. A strong barista is a strong Shift. You have to be able to be anything and everything. You’re going to be great!
