Asking for ID for outside baristas? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BreannaLyne
When I was hired I was told that if someone said they had partner numbers and weren't using their Starbucks card we need to ask for ID. I asked a girl for her's today and she was pissed. She said that as a partner she has never heard of having to ask for ID, but that's another story.

Anyways I was just wondering is asking for ID part of Starbucks policy or is it just something our store manager came up with?

That’s policy. I would have told her that she didn’t HAVE to show you the ID, but you don’t HAVE to give her the discount 🤭

As a trans partner.... as long as your good that my last name matches and not first I’m chill.

Also trans and have run into this, I'm upfront and say that my name is x in the system, but this is my legal name. Usually if you're not entirely new it's very clear when someone is or isn't a partner. Also because they put my dead name on my green apron card so there is no way I can avoid this.

Also considering anyone can change their name in the system to a preferred nickname or whatnot it may not necessarily out someone (though not always the case unfortunately)

I usually take their numbers and when the name comes up on the screen I tell them a different name and wait for them to correct me. I usually get a funny look from them but they usually understand why.

I might start doing that too.

You could also ask for their name too

It’s policy. Most won’t ask but, it is a thing.

I wouldn’t have gotten pissed off... it would be smart for every store to require ID (I haven’t been asked yet).
tiredwoods 2 points 4y ago
we ask every time but its because we have a local issue with a customer giving us her “partner code” (what)

I do not have a partner card. Never got one.

My partner info on the hub where you check you pay stub is where you can choose the option to have a physical card sent to you. Or use it digitally on the app :)

I just use the app, but I haven’t even had people ask me what my name is when I use my numbers. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thats policy, but I ask them for their name and then I say it didnt load and repeat the number back to them (with one wrong) and wait for them to correct me

My manager told me if they just tell you their partner number then you need their ID unless they have a physical card or on their mobile then you don’t have to ID them

I've never been asked in 5.5 years. I think we've only asked one person because we knew they were not a partner but using their moms partner number.

I’ve been asked for my ID only once before. You’re supposed to check for sure but most of the time I personally just ask their name and call it a day
