Hi! Today is gonna be my first day of training at Starbucks. I originally was supposed to have sort of an orientation before this week, but things got busy and my manager had to move our orientation to today so I haven’t gotten a chance to ask all my questions. My main question is, are there distinct rules about makeup for anyone? I tend to really put in effort and have fun with my makeup and I obviously wouldn’t do anything too crazy because it’s work, but there’s nothing in the Starbucks “look book” about it. Any advice? I wanted to do some eyeshadow that matches the aprons today but idk if that’s too extra.

I’d play it pretty light/natural until you have a sense for what your manager allows. In practice, how strict dress code is depends on your specific location. One of my coworkers is wearing black lipstick today and most people have just given her compliments. We can usually do bright eyeshadow/lips without issues.
But my location is more lax on most attire things so I don’t wanna mislead you.

I gotcha! I’ll definitely go more subtle today. My manager is really great and the store seems to be at least a little relaxed about the dress code, hopefully I’ll get it figured out today!

I can’t comment on other stores because I don’t know if my SM is just pretty lax, but we have partners who definitely go all out with makeup. Like wearing green lipstick or bright eyeshadow or whatever. I mean it is just makeup you can always wash it off if they take issue with it. Bring some makeup wipes with you just in case?

The only thing to avoid is chunky glitter because it can fall into the drinks. Other than that, you’ll see a huge range on other baristas, from no makeup at all (mostly openers tbh) to full on Insta ready looks. Oh, and you’re going to sweat pretty steadily, so keep that in mind.

A light make up look is allowed, but no heavy make up. At least at our store 😄 Keep it light and ask your manager to be sure.
