For safety reasons, policy is that once the opening baristas enter the store, the doors must stay locked until the store is ready for business(i.e. the cash is properly secured in the drawers and safe). However, all partners should be entering the store together, so I would question why your shift is entering the store before all partners are present.

I would go to r/legaladvice and talk with your district manager if the problem persists. I get technically, you are late. But they are intentionally ignoring you and preventing you from being on the clock.
I don't know how badly you need this job, but I would have gone home if this happened more than once. If they want to be petty about times, they can work without me.

I'd be screwed if my store did this. I'm constantly 3-6 minutes late (despite my best efforts) when I open. If I knew I'd be locked out at 5am on the dot and would have to watch them try to do set up one person down, I'd laugh my ass off.
You should talk to your DM. You'd get in less trouble for being one minute (or 5) late than your shift would for obviously keeping you from getting paid while you are there!

I’ve never had this happen? I used to work at 5 am and my store opened at 5 am. I would be there at 4:45 to get a coffee to what not and they always let me in.
