“Can I have two shots like an americano with steamed milk instead of water but give me the milk for free? Every other Starbucks does it for me :)”(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by fuckimabaristanow
1. No they fucking don’t 2. Thats a latte 3. I’m charging you as a latte
She literally argued with me for 15 minutes and held up my line.
Idk why people keep trying me ffs
Thanx for listening
classicalyouth50 points4y ago
Oh for real my last store did this and made me feel like an asshole every time someone tried a form of this. I just stopped caring about doing things right
fuckimabaristanow [OP]16 points4y ago
I know but I get in trouble 😭 I don’t want to get fired
BaristaBoiJacoby3 points4y ago
Odds are you wouldn't get fired for doing it once or twice to "make the moment right" but excessively would definitely end in a conversation with your SM
Wasabi-ragga-30 points4y ago
So your manager is cool with you going and back and forth with customers🤔
DocPBJ007-12 points4y ago
Why did it make u feel like an asshole? U giving people pleasure with big corp money
veloci-rooster15 points4y ago
I think it might have to do with consistency issues? When customers take advantage and break the rules at one Starbucks, they try to pull the same stunt at others and you become the infamous “other Starbucks,” thus making the lives of baristas at different stores more challenging. My store does this with refills. It drives me crazy. Idc about the money the corporation is losing all too much, but I do care that I know these people will go to other stores and give other baristas grief for not giving them free refills whenever they want.
DocPBJ007-15 points4y ago
Lmao sis I just joined this sub randomly. I like SB but I am broke
classicalyouth6 points4y ago
Because what it was is I'd be told "follow the rules" and yet when I would over drive thru, or POS, shifts would hear and say "make the moment right" making it seem like I dont know what I'm doing with SO MANY PEOPLE. like some dude who handed me his own personal sugar and when I told him no , I was told "you are the only one who gives me trouble for any of this" "everyone else does it!" So maybe asshole isn't right, it all made me feel like an ass
510CK48 points4y ago
Lmao just give the exact amount of ounces and when they bring it back you let them know you charge for the amount of ounces and charge them for that latte!!!! “Other Starbucks do it for me” go to the other starbucks Karen lol
LimpCondiment40 points4y ago
Hated when people tried this. I’ll tell them to go to that Starbucks and do it and that’s not hows it’s supposed to be charged. I’ll even ask them the store and I’ll call in front of them. Don’t try me lol
jefferysaveme122 points4y ago
Shit you do that? That’s some wish fulfillment shit I’d pay to see
LimpCondiment20 points4y ago
Pretty normal imo lol it’s NYC we don’t play that around here. ESP my store
kaylawaylabb5 points4y ago
This is the level of petty I am with the ones who try it but only if I have the time. We’re normally slammed and I either choose to ignore their ass or I’ll make time to let them know 👏🏽 NOT 👏🏽 TODAY!
chrisrk91232 points4y ago
My favorite one is the shots over ice with milk to the top. I say cool so a latte :)
memiorsofaweeaboo4 points4y ago
That’s when I measure out 4oz of milk and pack the cup with ice when they argue with me 🤷🏽♀️
Edit: words are hard
Dawizba3 points4y ago
I melt the ice with the shots as much as I can, put a regular amount of cream in, then some more ice to the top. If it's not full, a little bit of water doesn't hurt
chrisrk9124 points4y ago
Y’all are stronger than me. I quit Starbucks mostly so I could just work at a shop where I can tell people off for this BS. I charge them for a latte straight up lol
Dawizba2 points4y ago
Honestly if you do something like just adding a little water (since I refuse to give them a latte for super cheap), most people never even notice. There were two ladies that came through the drive through for a mobile order that was half an hour old, we had to remake their frappucino, and they even asked to change their grande pink drinks to a dragon drinks while also making it a Venti. The pink drinks were already made, but I just made a Grande dragon drink and did some water and a little more ice out of spite 😅 not the right thing to do, but they didn't notice and the pink drinks went home with a partner for her little brothers
larg983 points4y ago
Honestly I’ve argued with so many white old women over this who come in the drive thru😅
AMFitzgerald30 points4y ago
“Can I get a cup of ice water with two scoops of matcha powder?” ;)
So a mf tea bitch
TrebleClefable27 points4y ago
You're actually supposed to charge that as a custom iced tea. It was such a common 'hack' that corporate changed the rules and sent out a memo a couple years back.
AMFitzgerald12 points4y ago
Yeah. It used to be 90¢ and now they’re mad it’s $2 and change
TrebleClefable8 points4y ago
Yeah. The logic behind being that the 80 cent charge is for an addition to a drink. A drink with a charge. Like if you add a shot to a drink it's 80 cents but a solo espresso is like.. 235ish? Cheap people always find a way though, just gotta smile, ahaha.
dalenakitty20 points4y ago
I tell them to let me know what store does it so I can report it since that's not correct. That always gets them to shut the fuck up and pay. :)
classicalyouth5 points4y ago
Oooooooh I'm gonna have fun with that one
CalDoesMaths3 points4y ago
Oh man my shift got in an argument about how we can't do venti nitros to someone over drive through. They bitch ed about it. Then they called the store 5 minutes later and she was calling to complain to about him. After 5 minutes on the phone with her he gave the phone to our asm and they just told the lady something along the lines of "I'm not writing a report on my employee for insisting on company policy"
God that situation was aggravating. She originally came through drive through with me but my shift just cut me off as soon as she said venti nitro.
obeehunter20 points4y ago
The best I can do is an Americano misto. After that, GTFO.
Wasabi-ragga13 points4y ago
I personally dont get paid enough to care🤷🏿♂️
vanillaprick34 points4y ago
You’re the reason why customers do this.
iqueefkief2 points4y ago
aaaand corporate not paying partners enough is the reason you have coworkers who don’t care
vanillaprick8 points4y ago
Alright then, go ahead and make things more difficult for your baristas out of spite. Let’s all suffer while we wait for you to convince corporate up our wages. Seriously, come on.
iqueefkief1 points4y ago
it makes it easier for most baristas to go the path of least resistance, which is why you’ll hear a lot of shift managers tell their partners to make the moment right. starbucks corporate doesn’t expect you to argue with a customer for 15 minutes over a couple of dollars, and it’s moot, because either scenario there harms the business. telling someone no and fighting with them costs more in the long run, and in general is gonna make you feel like shit.
it’s not worth it for anyone
Thatsmypurseidku71312 points4y ago
My manager really knows how to finesse a moment like this. She'd overhear the customer and say "They gave it to you for free? Would you mind telling me the store location so that I can call them and remind them that's against policy?" Never once, has a customer offered up the alleged location. Nor did they get their free milk. Sorry OP. Maybe try this the next time it happens, that way you're not being percieved as "rude" (you're not, you're trying to do the right thing, not what the customer thinks is right), you're instead following policy.
kaylawaylabb11 points4y ago
I LOVE when they get a triple shot over ice and then proceed to say they wanted some milk and they wanted syrup. Like legit building your damn drink at my hand off area. Holding up the baristas and just looking like a cheap asshole. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. It’s not a big deal! 😂
CalichrisE3 points4y ago
I had some lady come in one time and asked for a grande vanilla latte....in a venti cup with extra milk. And then proceeded to get upset as to why we’re charging her for a venti. I explained how that is literally a venti latte and she pulls the “but the other Starbucks does it” yeah well we don’t sorry. We ended up charging her a grande and my manager saying it was fine, which is why I left Starbucks. Managers rarely had our backs with anything and if we followed policy they would just override it and make us baristas look stupid
littl3msR3devil1 points4y ago
Cheap people trying to cheat the system!!!!
Wasabi-ragga-88 points4y ago
You dont get paid to police drinks, just make what they want lol.
fuckimabaristanow [OP]49 points4y ago
I can make whatever she wants me to make her. But two shots and steamed milk is a latte and I’ll get in trouble if I don’t charge as such.
It’s not that I want to police drinks, it’s more like I don’t want to lose my job.
Wasabi-ragga-81 points4y ago
My manager just tells us to ring it up as they order. If you arent a shift it's pretty much above you, dont be a twerp
realsheeps27 points4y ago
shitty attitude lol
AMFitzgerald14 points4y ago
“Don’t be a twerp.” Our company literally spends more on our healthcare than on coffee beans. I’m not going to let someone pull something over on me just because they think they can. This company means a lot to some of us.
MidnaNaito2 points4y ago
Pepega
saintdumpling6 points4y ago
I may not care about a few cents off Starbucks bottom line, but I also get in trouble if I just "make people what they want" arbitrarily. Other people in the store can see what I ring up, and if I do it wrong I'm risking my job.
[deleted]-17 points4y ago
today i had someone come in and order a venti green tea lemonade and got mad at me because he wanted it for free as a “refill”. he was genuinely pissed when i told him refills were only for cold brews ice coffees and brewed coffee. some people man
oddishmaster25 points4y ago
unless it was a matcha green tea he should have been able to get a refill
[deleted]0 points4y ago
when i asked my manager she told me it wasn’t allowed... not sure if that was a miscommunication
saintdumpling4 points4y ago
Dunno why you're being downvoted for doing what your manager instructed.
DocPBJ007-17 points4y ago
Ya fuck this bitch. I was the one who got denied
stella-lunar17 points4y ago
???? We do iced tea refills ????
lecameralady8 points4y ago
Yep!!!
Firefly108616 points4y ago
My shift said we can do a refill for the tea but not the lemonade. If they get a green tea lemonade they can refill it to a plain tea... So that's what our store does.
[deleted]12 points4y ago
Im not sure why i’m getting downvoted but I’m pretty sure this is why my manager didn’t allow it. I was just following what she told me to do 🤷🏼♀️
510CK4 points4y ago
There are free refills for iced tea but only if they are members. Otherwise it’s a few cents.
mcr04141 points4y ago
There is literally a button for ice tea refill. I wonder if he came in and it wasn’t a in store refill? You would charge for the first one. :)
[deleted]1 points4y ago
Thats the other thing. I was working since opening and hadn’t seen him all day until that moment when he ordered. Definitely wasn’t in store
