Frustrated! I am curious if any other Starbucks baristas has a hiring process like this and if it changed working for actual Starbucks since it was technically employed through a super market (very sorry if this is wrong place to post) I am just wondering if anyone else dealt with this also! So I applied for a job working at Starbucks or should I say working for Starbucks! I’m working in a local super market, which I knew was the location but I thought I was working for the Starbucks not the super market but I was wrong I went to my hired interview and it was for the supermarket where they gave me a uniform and stuff to wear and now I’m dreading it because it’s not just Starbucks I have to work 2 months as a super market employee before I start at Starbucks but I was specifically hired for Starbucks so I’m a little mad for the miscommunication had I’d known I wasn’t working directly for Starbucks I wouldn’t have taken the job and worked in a Starbucks specifically!

You’re working at a licensed store, so you are an employee of the license holder (the grocery store). That’s true if you were working at a Kroger Starbucks, Target Starbucks, etc.

If you want to be a Starbucks employee you have to work at a corporate, stand-alone Starbucks.

I understand that now but didn’t going into the job at first and I don’t wanna be a quitter obviously but I want to work for Starbucks not a crappy grocery store!

Yeah licensed stores don't seem to communicate that to you during the interview process. I didn't know the difference either. Now I do and am trying to get hired at a corporate location.

Thanks I’ll definitely have to try that as well!

I was at a licensed store for maybe 3 months and was hired immediately at a corporate store! stick with it and it’ll be easier to get into a better store.

Thanks so much I definitely would prefer an actual store but hopefully this will give me that opportunity!

if you can’t get into an actual store right now being trained at a licensed store will absolutely help to get into a corporate one! depends on your location but in some places getting hired at a starbucks is actually pretty difficult, wish you all the best it is a frustrating job but it is worth it depending on your situation.

Thanks for the advice!

I could definitely be wrong but I think this is what licensed stores are? They are usually within another company who uses their own employees to run the store rather than the actual Starbucks company themselves. You normally don’t get as many (if any?) benefits as an employee - instead you’d get the grocery store’s employee benefits instead. Like I said I could be totally wrong but I think this is what happened.

No you’re right I just didn’t know that going in I wanted a Starbucks job for several reasons but the benefits were a plus a crappy grocery store isn’t where I wanted to work! I don’t wanna quit but I’d misunderstood and thought I was working FOR Starbucks and now I’m a bit frustrated for lack of explaining that I would be a grocery employee!

It definitely is frustrating. Don’t be afraid to voice your opinion to whoever hired you/ your bosses or supervisors. I’d be pissed if I were you. You could possible start shopping around for other actual starbucks stores that are hiring? Best of luck to you.

Thanks I hate to be a quitter and I wouldn’t be as frustrated if I was getting the job I applied for but being told I have to work at the grocery store as a bagger/checkout before I can even do the job I was hired for is what pissed me off so much because it sounds extreme but I feel like I was lied to in a sense!
