First of all, I’m sure some of you out there can definitely relate to this. But I guess I just need to let out some steam, because I’m a fairly new green bean who has been complimented by many for how well I’m doing (consistently switched between all positions, have been told to apply to be a shift, regional manager said I’m in a great place for my time at the company (humble brag)), but I’m watched by one shift in particular like a hawk. It’s not with bad intention, and it’s not like they’re trying to find things that I do wrong, but I definitely think they get a power trip off of it. I think it has something to do with the fact that they’ve been w Starbucks for a long time.

For example, recently we were talking about having water to drink while on the floor. My manager and my other shift have explicitly told me they are okay with us drinking water if we need to, because our bar is set up in such a way that it makes trips into the back house way inconvenient for a sip of water. And it’s not like I’m trying to drink water while during rush, or in front of customers, or even when I’m just doing work. But this shift berated me about how its a health code violation, this and that, etc. Which I understand, but honestly I really don’t care what my shift has to say if my manager is saying something else. And, when we had a lull, they would consistently & silently hover over my shoulder after every order they took on register (I was on bar). There are other things too - like this shift will spend minutes talking to customers about themself, but if we’re both on bar together, they’ll bug me to pick up the backed-up orders on their bar (“if you’re caught up, you have to help me too” which I’m HAPPY to do, but not when you’re not even doing your job in the first place). NOT TO MENTION, for all the experience they have at Starbucks, they really do suck at keeping a clean bar during peak, and also on customer support in general.

SIGH. That’s all. Will probably delete out of fear. Thank you guys.
