I've worked in the food industry for 5 years now, so naturally, I have dealt with a generous amount of rude customers.
This wasn't the WORST interaction I've had, but this was definitely in my top five.
My story begins about a week ago, it was a busy afternoon and I was on bar by myself. I can handle front and dt bar pretty well when it's busy, the only factor that will throw off my groove is when front customers stop me. Usually when they do it's because they don't know if it's their drink (is your name Karen? Is Karen written on the cup? Then it's yours :)) or they just want to make sure I did everything the sticker says to do. To avoid this interaction, however, I am VERY LOUD when I call out drinks, and make sure to read off everything the sticker says.
M = Me, RL = Rude Lady
M: GRANDE ICED COFFEE WITH SUGAR FREE C.D., HEAVY CREAM, AND LIGHT ICE FOR RL
RL(standing RIGHT in front of me): \*nasty tone\* excuse me, is this sugar free vanilla???
M: Oh, did you want sugar free vanilla? I made this with sugar free cinnamon dolce like the sticker says, but if you wanted the sugar free vanilla, I'll gladly remake it for you!
RL: NO! I wanted the cinnamon dolce!!
M: oh...well....that's what I made it with...
RL: fine... does it have heavy cream in it???
M: \*Getting a little impatient and watching stickers pile up\* yes ma'am, I'm the one who made the drink, I can promise you it's heavy cream.
RL: \*looks at the drink with disgust\* and...light ice??
M: yes ma'am
RL: \*shakes the drink containing MAYBE 10 ice cubes\* This is NOT light ice!
M: \*walking away to make other drinks\* Well that's the standard, I don't know what to tell you.
She then scoffed and stomped away, and I was trying to catch up with the orders.
I never talk back to customers, and I am always so nice, even to the worst ones, but this lady really ruffled my feathers. I don't mind AT ALL to remake a drink, even if they are the ones who ordered it wrong. I am ALL about going out of my way to make a customer's day (lol that rhymed). But I am getting tired of dealing with entitled customers. Yeah, we're Starbucks and we try our best to make the moment right, and make sure our customers leave satisfied. But we're also just STARBUCKS, just a chain coffee shop. So when customers act like they own the place because they have a damn gold card, and proceed to treat me like I'm an idiot because "they pay for my living" it just grinds my gears, yo.
To end on a happy note, yesterday I had a really awesome conversation with a lady and her husband, and they were super cool and nice. I honestly love this job, and the great interactions I have with wonderful people just make my whole day.
Rant over.
Bye, love you <3
