Yes! The bucket that catches the liquid when you ring it out was nearly overflowing. I couldn’t fathom why...

Dang! That sucks. As a closer, I can pretty much tell you that unless your store is just very disorganized or busy, and therefore has rushed and stressful closes, this is just laziness. I’ve literally never left the mop head on the mop, let alone left the bucket full like this. Even on nights with hard closes.

100% laziness and sadly not an out of the ordinary thing at our store. When I close and we are slammed I still rush around and help the baristas with their closing tasks once my money is counted. The closers are always willing to stay a little late to get tasks done, so there really shouldn’t be an excuse.

I've been a shift for almost two years now. I've done nothing but close for about 18mos. Yeah it sucks that it got left there, but seriously how long did it take *you* to dump it out? 30s? The next time the closers do something you don't like or forget about something, I would encourage you to keep track of how many times as an opener, or a mid, say to yourself "they'll just have to deal with that later tonight."
I've had openers leave used cold brew grounds bags (still in the paper bag soggy and wet) pushed under the shelves in the BOH. I've had to do the mid and close pastry pull and food counts.
Sorry for the rant. I'm standing up for my fellow night crew.

I used to close for over a year when I first started. I’ve worked as a shift on opens, mids, and closes. You don’t work at my store, therefore you don’t know how often things like this happen. Have I done something before that inconvenienced my fellow partners? Duh who hasn’t. But do I often say to myself “*they* can deal with that later?” Honestly no. Maybe I leave it and remind MYSELF to get to it later, but I don’t leave my messes for others to clean. And I’m open to people letting me know when I messed up. Are they little missteps that they didn’t do on purpose? I’m sure. But it happens frequently, and I have a right to be annoyed by it when I know I do everything possible to make sure my tasks are completed, and that I let the next person on duty know if I wasn’t able to get to something. Totally respect you standing up for your shift though, it’s not always easy, and sometimes shit happens.
Btw it was filled to the brim with water so it was heavy and spilling everywhere as I dumped it. Thanks for your input though.

All of my mid shifts are worthless. The other day their handover into my close was them handing me the keys and saying "it is what it is" and clocking out and leaving. I had no prep of any kind, breaks were hours behind, and the store was TRASHED. I tend to get salty when I see people talking down on closers because of how much shit I've been forced to deal with. I constantly leave a prepped (sometimes over prepped) and spotless store only to have another pile of shit handed to me the next day. My SM is totally checked out and is almost never in the store let alone on the floor.
Glad to hear that you take the time and care to hand over good floors to your next shift. I wish I could have that one day.

I feel so sorry when I hear that there are good, hard working and caring partners surrounded by others who don’t care. I understand partners checking out because we take so much shit as partners, but I would never hand over such a terrible turnover if I could do anything in my power to help it. When I used to close I used to get really defensive when people would bash closers but working on both sides I can see both sides of it. Still, our store is not a high volume store, and with my old *respectable* manager, we never had issues with the closers like we do now. We’ve had so many issues in the store since we got a different SM. I understand a bad close on happy hour days, but there are consistently crappy closes at my store honestly due to laziness and lack of effort. Being good at your job isn’t easy and you can’t be careless.
I hope you get over partners who care as much as you do!! You deserve it

Me and my normal barista closer are usually out in 12-15 minutes. Some stores are just a lot busier at night. And some people are just lazy lol
sarextrashaken [OP]1 points4y ago
My store is fairly low volume. We still get slammed, have busy closes, and struggle with labor, but this is just laziness and no one can tell me otherwise.

Jesus
My closers left the mop submerged in the bucket full of milk that just smelled sour and horrible. Like why. Had to change the mop head and bleach the entire bucket just to get the place to smell somewhat okay again. So not necessary
sarextrashaken [OP]5 points4y ago
Eeeeewwww I could literally imagine it I’m so sorry that happened to you.
DingusFringle3 points4y ago
So gross, did they at least give you a heads up or just leave it for you to find ?
sarextrashaken [OP]9 points4y ago
Nope, just left it in the middle of the back room. This is actually pretty common of our closers to do. I feel so bad now to call anyone out or let someone know because I used write notes in the book to let people know what happened and now they all think I’m a bitch.
RestingBaristaFace5 points4y ago
Let ‘em. At least you ain’t a nasty bitch like whoever left this.
sarextrashaken [OP]3 points4y ago
I feel so supported right now thank you all lol
baengali1 points4y ago
i’m guilty of doing this once. i was so lazy and tired that day 😕
sarextrashaken [OP]2 points4y ago
I’m so sorry you were having a bad day! Hopefully you’ve had a ton of great days after that. The thing that frustrated me about this was not that they left the mop/dirty water out. It was that it was filled to the brim (heavy and hard to lift) and in the middle of the floor. I hope you’re feeling more energetic these days ☺️
baengali2 points4y ago
thankssss!!! honestly i love coming to work cuz my coworkers, shifts and manager are all so cool and fun to work with. i just barely get sleep so i’m always tired at work 😂
sarextrashaken [OP]1 points4y ago
I feel that. I wake up so early to open then spend the rest of my day doing stuff so it’s like a never ending sleepless cycle 😂
baengali2 points4y ago
today i just asked to be on cs so i don’t have to interact with customers. doing cs during morning peak makes time go so fast. at first i hated cs but wow this shit is amazing
