Im really over customers waiting till after I give them their drink to request a Nitro lid. Like having to toss a new lid. To give them a nitro, is still a waste of plastic. If they really wanted to save the plastic/turtles they could just buy reusable straw or a reusable cup altogether.

THIS LITERALLY HAPPENED AND HE SAID SAVE THE TURLTLES AND I TOLD HIM “just so ya know...the nitro has more plastic than both the lid and straw combined and I have to throw away the lid you don’t want to use so unfortunately no turtles are being saved today...” and the look on his face was priceless and I’m not sorry about it....also he was being rude so it was completely justified :)

perfect way to deal w a rude customer

More than half of all plastic waste in the oceans is fishing nets. Plastic straws are the LEAST of our concerns. People only started freaking out about straws because of some video that went viral.

Persoanlly I don't find any of it to be ok. Like hey call me crazy but I kinda dig this planet and dont want to fuck it up.
Listen to the Mighty Gojira song Toxic garbage island and let the heavy metal love flow within you too!

I always feel so rude trying to correct people in a friendly, polite way and remind them to ask for these things at the register. I don’t want to be rude but I want to help them out for future reference.

“Sure no problem! Next time feel free to let them know at the register, that way we can go ahead and have it on there for you once we finish your drink!”
I had a guy order a nitro cold brew today and then he came back to me at the register asked me why there wasn’t any ice in it, then asked me (still at the register) if he could add ice to it. So I told him basically a modified version of the above, of course saying nitro doesn’t traditionally come with ice, but if you’d like it let us know at the register when placing the order etc

Totally get it. My friends at work sometimes tell me that I can come off a little stern or “rude” because I’m loud, so when I try to be super polite I feel like I might come off as sarcastic. And as a female honestly we are easily labeled as bitches by other females so I don’t want to offend a customer, ya know?

For sure - we definitely have to tailor how we say things/the emphasis on our words, but then too straightforward is also rude. It’s finding the perfect balance 🙄

Totally. A stressful task all in itself 😩

I had a really bad migraine at work the other night and realized I was kind of being curt with customers after a few hours of it getting progressively more painful. A few minutes after I started making an effort to sound nicer someone came through our drive and her “extra ice” trenta tea was half full of ice, but apparently she wanted more. I smiled, apologized, and gave her a cup of ice on the side “so we don’t have to pour any tea out :) “ Honestly I thought I sounded nice about it but she immediately came into the cafe and screamed at the POS person about how “shitty and mean” I was ☹️☹️☹️ can’t win.

Sad honestly): like I’m doing what you ask and I’m trying hard to do it positively with a smile. I truly just think some people (customers) are just negative and unhappy in life so they take it out on us. I would never treat workers like that.

i bring this up whenever people talk about not using straws. i appreciate people trying to help out environment and start change and i mean small change is change,,,, but??? they’re not doing much by using plastic cups and lids every time they go to starbucks, might as well buy a reusable one

It’s so sad honestly. Like I’m doing what you ask and I’m smiling while doing it. What do you want me to do?
