Advice? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by windedleaves
I just got hired at Starbucks a month ago, and am doing very well so far. I love my job, and I don’t mind the stress. However, during my interview, I was asked about my future plans. I mentioned that I planned on going to graduate school in the future, but wasn’t sure on when.

I very recently made the decision to accept an offer from a graduate school. It was a difficult decision, especially because it involves moving (I’ll be going to New York City). I have not told my manager yet. I don’t want to like upset her because I literally JUST got hired, but going to graduate school is something that I need to do to get my dream job one day. How should I bring this up to her? Also, are there any hopes to transferring to a location in New York City, so I can live on food other than ramen?

Thanks!

P.S. I don’t need to move until late August/early September

Just tell her. The sooner the better so she can start planning on hiring. It’s your life and she will understand. Whether she’s disappointed you’re leaving or not it is totally your decision.

Do not worry at all. This is starbucks, that is your future. Even if they are upset ( which would be crazy) don’t let it get to you. Always put yourself first, because Starbucks will not.
