Can I move from a regular store to a licensed store??(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by greneed
Hi! I’m a 218 (but left and came back) and I just can’t handle the pay that Starbucks itself offers any longer. It is really messing up my mental health to the point where even potentially getting a SSV position isn’t quite in the realm of possibility right now. But I do like my job. I was considering trying to transfer to a tarbucks bc I hear their pay is better and the store might be slower. Has anyone done this? Advice pls?

I just quit my job from working in one - and heres my two cents;
You get really awful shifts, whether super long days or super short - and theyre never consecutive because of the high turn over rate.
You are left alone often - and if youre understaffed like my kiosk was, then uncertified baristas will be left alone a lot as well.
My store had a seniority select a sched. So if you didnt work at a store prior, then you get super super shitty shifts until more people get hired and are also new, or when seniors leave. This usually means if you enjoy mornings, you wont get them unless youve been with the company for years.
My kiosk was in a grocery store, so we had to follow the grocery store policies, not starbucks. So there was no tips, very strict dress codes, and less perks.
You have to be prepared to work with one other person on a 6am-9am Sunday morninng rush and run back and forth to your back room for what you need.
You have to be prepared to be by yourself during a BoGo Half Off Frappy hour on a Thursday night when youre trying to close but people keep lining up for their fraps.
You have to be prepared to run out of a bunch of things because kiosks get second hand shipping choices, so you wanted to order the strawberry refreshers? Sorry there was a shortage and only main locations got them.
Kiosks also get super dirty and gross.
Although we were paid every week, about 11 bucks an hour, and if you had good seniority, then you got whatever shifts you wanted as well as days off. But always understaffed, really awful upper store management, and overall way too gossipy.
Id rather work at a regular starbucks if Im honest.
sincerely, 676

If you apply to Target (the only place I’ve seen the pay significantly higher than Starbucks’) get ready to hate your life. Tarbucks *suck*. You’ll opening/closing alone, getting the same rushes as cafe-only corporate stores. No benefits whatsoever, no support from fellow coworkers or management. The pay just isn’t worth how much I hated my job.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Isn’t it funny that if the mochas were done and the sandwich pull was done then we were having a lucky day? Lmao target sucks

I NEVER had the pull done before closing

No way...I’ve had to do that many times but it’s not getting better :/

It got to the point that I was getting in trouble for still being there when the store was closing down sometimes. Like, I’m sorry that I was slammed until 9 and had no time to do anything until the kiosk was closed.

Dont. Trust me. Stay at a real Starbucks. Liscensed ones are terrible. I can't wait to get out.

My licensed store isn't terrible. Sure the manager is shitty and quit like three days ago (finally), couldn't even finish her 2 weeks and she scheduled someone alone for a Sunday opening shift. And we only have like 9 people. But the Assistant manager is really good and actually cares. But we get paid more than the corporate one down the road. They pay Like 9.20 and I get 10.

Thanks everybody. Ugh. I just wish I could figure out something. I’m kinda drowning. I really appreciate the feedback though so much!

In order to move to a licensed store, you’d have to apply directly with them. Since it’s not a corporate owned store, transferring is not an option, and you’d be filling out a job application. I myself worked at a licensed store before moving to corporate, and was being paid $2 less an hour. Although I’m not sure what the pay is specifically at the licensed store you’re interested in, corporate offers so many great benefits that were unavailable to me at a licensed store. There was no health coverage unless you were full-time, no free drinks and food, only discounted, free school wasn’t an option, etc. However, if the licensed store pays more, and you don’t need the other benefits, then why not? In terms of business, the licensed store I worked with was in my college campus, so we were ALWAYS busy because people had classes throughout the day. It really just depends on the location. I hope this helps!
