What can DT do for closing?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by xoxoellie
I’m a relatively new barista. We have a list at my store for closing, however my other coworkers don’t use the list to check anything off. I’m usually DT at night so I’m mostly doing that the whole night. I don’t work nights often and I’m just really anxious and confused about closing. First of all, my coworkers seem to rush to do everything right away (while I’m busy on DT) and when there’s free time and I ask what needs to be done, they get annoyed with me and just tell me to stay where I’m at or there’s nothing to be done. Obviously I know there’s more to be done than stocking lids and cups like they tell me. I think they just don’t feel like explaining anything to me. So tell me, what can I do while I’m on DT? Usually I switch inclusions, clean pumps/syrups/containers, stock, garbages.... but what else can I do? I just feel useless and like a bad coworker. But I don’t know what to do since they don’t help me much and don’t mark off anything on the list.. Please and thanks
Also for pre close, what am I SUPPOSE to be doing? I usually just ask but like I said they are super vague and rude with me about my questions. I just want to learn and get my job done. I usually just help and do whatever I can, dishes, etc but is there something more specific I should be doing?

While the store is still open and you’re on drive thru definitely restocking, working on backups, filling carafes, making whips is helpful. If you don’t have any customers starting on dishes maybe? Honestly just keep doing your best and asking to help, I’m sorry that’s your fellow partners aren’t super welcoming and explaining things to you!

Thank you. I’m talking to my store manager about it when she gets back because honestly it’s just making everything so hard. I wanna learn but i can’t if people don’t wanna cooperate with me lol

I understand, it can be challenging for some people to break routine to train someone but you have to be given a fair opportunity to learn. Hopefully your convo goes well with your SM!

I stock everything I can. If you have fridges near you I would start by cleaning and stocking them. I work on getting the tips ready to be dropped. Gathering up the trash. Start dishes. Back ups. Craftes. Cleaning the sinks

Thank you. I’m pretty good at stocking everything. I could clean the sinks more and do backups

The way it works at my store is that drive thru is a planted position most of the day, so often times I’ll ask CS if they need things done that I can do while standing in drive thru. So if they need things like carafes, whips, lemonades, or back up teas/inclusions, I can easily drop what I’m doing if a call comes through and CS can work on closing tasks.

Dishes are always helpful. Just double check w your CS so you dont step on their toes. Even bringing up an armful of dishes to put away is a huge relief to me when I'm on CS.

Idk how your store is set up but our DT is right in front of cold bar, so I always jump on cleaning it!

They have a certain time they usually break it down which isn’t until like 6. What can I do before that?
