Help me with sequencing. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by clairedixon
Hi, 2-3 month old green bean here and I keep getting yelled at for being too slow because so can’t sequence drinks efficiently. Please help.

Agreed. Sequencing sounds great when you’re reading, but actually doing it is a different story. It takes lots of practice. Communicate that you need more time to work on it. One day it’s just going to click and you’ll do it without thinking about it. As a ssv I don’t expect every barista to be perfect, but I do expect communication around personal development and training.

Log in to partner hub and re-read the module over it. You can access past training materials in MyLearning. It makes more sense after you actually know how to make drinks.
Ask to be put on a slow shift here and there specifically so you can take time to practice sequencing.
It does take time to learn, but you'll get it :)

The biggest thing that I was told was to always be working on something. Don’t just stand and wait for something. I normally sticker 2-3 cups at a time and start something that needs to be waited for (pulling shots, steaming milk, cold foam, frap in the blender, etc) and the do the drinks in order. Honestly it just comes with practice so don’t worry about it!

Sequencing is easy until you have one Frappuccino and a fucking Tik Tok drink as your next cup to pull. It gets harder.

Just do what works for you as long as you’re following the correct steps to make the drink (steam milk, shots, etc)
