Not allowed to blend a drink without adding base?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sweatymomspaghetti
So, my store manager told me that we’re not allowed to blend drinks if we don’t add at least 1 pump of base in them because it ruins our blenders. So like, for people who were getting that “TikTok” drink a few weeks back, we’d have to add a pump of base. Which usually isn’t a problem, but I sometimes get customers who want their Americano or Iced coffee blended and without sugar, and we’re supposed to add base? What? Aren’t these like really good blenders?? It sounds so made up.

Totally made up. These blenders are $400+ Vitamix brand blenders. They could blend a human hand, then be ran through the sanitizer and nobody would notice any sort of "damage".
Fun fact, these blenders can actually blend so fast that it can turn whatever your blending into hot soup (if it were on a manual setting). Vitamix blenders are used in 5 star kitchens all over the place. Whatever your manager is spewing you is absolute nonsense. Almost like they just think adding base is such a good idea that they try and tell everyone it's the "Starbucks way".
People are fried.

We actually used to have protein shakes that didn’t get any base if I remember correctly? The two button on the blender is actually for that option, blends it for longer and it’s a bit stronger.... I think

Love that visual lol

Can confirm, I own my personal vitamix blender and it comes with a recipe book on how to make soup from room temp liquids

If this was a real thing starbucks wouldn’t have offered smoothies for so long. RIP STRAWBERRY CHOCOLATE AND MANGO :(

The chocolate smoothie with a shot of espresso was my favourite thing to drink in the morning before a shift rip

It was very very tasty!

I still tell all my partners about how I miss the mango carrot smoothie. I wasn't a partner when it came out tho

The reason base is usually required for almost all blended drinks is because of the xanthan gum (pretty sure that’s the ingredient) that keeps the ice properly spread out in the drink. Otherwise it’ll go chunky at some parts and overall harder to manage. But required maintain the blender? Totally made up. The reasons for using base must have gone though a bad game of telephone

Yeah that’s not true. The blended strawberry lemonade is an actual drink on the menu and it doesn’t have base in it.

Ppl make straight up peanut butter in vitamixes. Idk what ur manager is going on about 😂

I thought the one pump of base was only for breaking down ice but ok

Sounds like a quality control measure. You can blend without base but everything is better with at least one pump blended
