Thinking of becoming a shift... Advice? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by 3bitesin
4 year partner here! (barista, coffee master and lead barista trainer at my store)
I just brought the idea of becoming a shift up to my SM and was met with a lot of excitement. I was wondering if it's worth it for me?
A lot of my friends have stepped down or quit after becoming a shift but that was before the pay gap became more than $3.
I'm bored as a barista and would love to challenge myself but I would love to know what I'm getting myself into ....

Advice?

I gunned for the promotion because I had become bored and wanted a challenge again as well. Now, two years into it I'd give anything to be a barista again. As a barista you get to clock in work, clock out, go home and be DONE. As a SSV it feels like you're always on the job and it's become more difficult for me to not take work home with me.

I'm on mobile so going into detail would me arduous, but I'd be more than happy to answer any questions if you wanna DM me.

Tl;dr I wouldn't do it unless you need the extra cash.

I was just re hired as a shift. It is not worth the money, if you love what you do and want to move up further through the company then I would say yes if not stay where you are make positive change at the level you can and train amazing baristas.

I mean i dont know where you are working at but all of my shifts work so hard and say that it isnt worth it for the raise because of the stress it induces.
