Question about espresso machines being turned off...(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hipbs23
Does your store turn off the espresso machines at night? The store I just started at turns the machines off at night. I am a shift re hire after about two years away from the company and from what I remember we where told to leave them on. Just wondering if anyone else has knowledge on this matter.

We don’t. And it seems pointless to turn them off every night tbh

That is what I thought! The explication I got was we are closed for to long to keep them on. But I think starbucks has the money for the electric bill...

We vacuum out the excess beans and turn the machine off every night. I think it's ridiculous

Well vacuuming the beans out is best so the hopper will go back on easier and it keeps the chute clean, my store dosent turn off the machines though because we figure that it costs as much energy to re-heat all the water vs just maintaining the temperature 🤷🏼♀️

The inside of the machine cooling down and reheating every day can warp parts internally and cause failures.

My old store did. Something about continuous use or some shit. My new store doesn’t... lol I dunno

Official information in the training says I leave them on except in case of power outage or the need to reboot.

Leave them on. Empty hoppers into cubes and wipe out with clean dry towel and vacuum the grinders on top. Once a week hoppers get deep cleaned and run through sanitizer machine.
