Tall rant about dealing with a new manager (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by msane2
My manager is very new, was a shift up until a few months ago. She micromanages everything, she's at our store from 5am to at least 7, sometimes until close. As a shift I can't get anything done! And if I do, it could always be better so she "teaches" by doing it her exact way. How does anyone deal with this! In all honesty she's a good person but I can't wait until she burns out.

I've watched new managers develop. If I had to guess, this new manager needs to work on her ability to delegate tasks. This is a vital aspect of the chain of command.

It may benefit you to reach out to her superior. Not to get her in trouble, but to help resolve the situation. She is still learning. Generally, a person will receive a promotion because of their ability to work hard and stay focused - but often they fail to realize they now need to learn to delegate. And if they do it right, then they need to trust (in you and themselves) that you will do the job correctly. Praise good behavior and immediately address/hault bad behavior.
