Has this ever happened to anyone? So I went to get my drink today used my partner numbers and my birthname came up when every other time it’s always been my preferred name. What can I do about this? I’m a fairly new partner and only been with the company a month.

That's really weird, I'd contact partner recourses to make your preferred name your only name? Not sure how you'd feel about that but id guess that's the only way to make it never appear again?

It’s just technically not my legal name so that’s why my birthname is on my records
silversungoddess9 points4y ago
We have 2 non-binary partners who use a different name and they were able to use their preferred names and they show up in our system that way
notrissa5 points4y ago
i’m nonbinary & my legal name isn’t the name i use; my preferred name comes up when i order drinks & even on teamworks — so your issue should be fixable ❤️❤️ i’m sorry i’m not sure how (started out that way for me) but i know it can happen!!!
bdc05 [OP]1 points4y ago
It started out as my preferred name today is the first time my birth name has showed up. So I wasn’t sure why it happened all of a sudden.
robotcrackle4 points4y ago
That is weird that it would change randomly. Definitely make a call.

YOU CAN CHANGE UR NAME IN PRTNER HUB IM TRANSGENDER AS WELL AND I WAS ABLE TO CHANE MY NAME TO COME UP DIFFRENTLY YOU WONT BE ABLE TO CHANE UR LEGAL NAME BUT UR NICKNAME AND THAT WILL XOME UP ON POS AND UR ORDERS AND EVERYTHING!!!! My store was so supportive
bdc05 [OP]1 points4y ago
It is changed in the system and has been since I started. My preferred name shows up on the schedule and the pos and everything else minus that one time yesterday morning.
BrOKen03181 points4y ago
Mhmm that’s weird maybe a glitch in the system? I logged onto my pos yesterday and it shut down just mine
kyle_shrewz3 points4y ago
i’ve seen it flip back and forth for a little while after a partner got married
Tara_Kitten1 points4y ago
That's strange. I just started as well but my chosen name shows up. Good luck getting things resolved!
pumpkinsnice1 points4y ago
Super weird. Contact partner resources. Your preferred name should always come up. Even if its “weird”. For example, I have a coworker named Bravo. Its his last name. He put it in as his preferred name, so when we use his discount it comes up as “Bravo Bravo” lol. It looks to me like someone tampered with your preferred name.
bdc05 [OP]1 points4y ago
It came up this afternoon again as my preferred name like it was really weird and I’ve never had that happen before. My co workers who didn’t know what my birth name was were so confused.
pumpkinsnice3 points4y ago
Yeah, honestly, I would call partner resources right now and get it fixed. Because having my dead name get out at my last job is why I quit. Thank god I had my name changed between that job and Starbucks, because if that happened here I’d be quitting on the spot. You’re stronger than I am for dealing with it so well. Just call partner resources and let them know of the error and say how you can’t use your discount/free drinks until its fixed due to the discomfort of being outed to everyone who sees it.

Thank you so much! I honestly wanted to cry but I took it and went to the back and calmed down before work. Thankful for a good group of employees who were like oh okay and just kind of dropped it from there! I’m so sorry that happened to you but I’m so happy you got your name changed! As soon as I move out I’m starting that process!
pumpkinsnice2 points4y ago
I’m so sorry that happened to you. At my last job, they had to manually override my dead name with my current name, and every time they did a system reset (2-3 times a year) they’d have to fix it again. Management usually did a good job, but one transphobic manager would “accidentally” drop my dead name to other coworkers behind my back. Which is actually illegal in my area and considered a hate crime. I had to transfer departments because of how uncomfortable I was with so many people knowing, and the new department couldn’t override it at ALL so every morning they’d do roll call and announce my dead name to everyone I was working with. I immediately quit, 3 years down the drain. Got my name changed then applied to Starbucks whos been awesome. Got paid medical leave for my surgery and now everythings been great.
So the fact your name got messed up like that feels like purposeful sabotage. Starbucks as a whole is a really trans friendly company. Just contact partner resources, let them know what happened and how it effected you. And hopefully it’ll be a quick fix.
And if you need any help navigating starbucks’s trans policies and healthcare, you’re always welcome to DM me! I’ve been here almost a year now and I have to say its been awesome compared to basically any other job I’ve ever had.

my preferred name pops up, when u filled out the app did you put your preferred name in?
bdc05 [OP]2 points4y ago
Yeah my preferred name is on everything and has always been used until today. When I went to go home I ordered something and my preferred name came up it was just the one time.
nickypng1 points4y ago
I haven't been there for a while, so idk if this still applies, but if you go my Partner Info (where you get your pay stubs, set up direct deposit) there's an option to fill in your preferred name, and that will be what pops up when your numbers are input for a discount.

Coming from a more conservative background, I'd like to advise not letting this get to you. After all, there are plenty of worse things to be called than your birth name. Trust me, I've been called every name in the book. In the meantime: until you do resolve this, try not to think much of it. It'll make you more resilient. Just throwing in my 2 cents of wisdom for the interim. :)
pumpkinsnice3 points4y ago
No. Just. No.
Cariboumoo-1 points4y ago
Would you rather this inconvenience eat away at OP?
pumpkinsnice5 points4y ago
No, I would prefer you research transphobia and what you can do to better yourself as a person before you say something hurtful and close minded to a fellow barista.

You may need to break this one down for me with thorough explanation.
Man or woman, I would advise anyone to stay strong in the face of adversity no matter the scale. Chin up.
