I wish corporate gave partners at store level a chance to come up with limited time drinks/flavors instead of just giving us these nasty ass Frappuccinos.
Partners could submit ideas/names, and the best ones could be chosen. Then, partners could go online and vote for their favorite flavors/drinks and every couple of weeks or so they could narrow it down to top 10, 8, 6, semi finals, then the top 2 choices....
Does that sound like too much work? I don’t think it would really be that difficult to do and would be a good way to get partners involved while reassuring us that they are connecting with us from their higher level. We are the ones trying things and building beverages so I feel like partners could come up with some great and delicious ideas. Idk I was talking about this with my coworkers and we thought it sounded like fun and would excite partners.

I'm fairly certain you can submit drink ideas/recipes but I do like the idea of voting on them! And I'm not sure if anything even happens with the submitted drinks
sarextrashaken [OP]15 points4y ago
Exactly! I think the voting would be a good way to let partners know that they’re actually listening and paying attention to us! It feels like we have no voice so I think this would help us feel like we’re being heard and might even help make connections between partners at the store level.

We were able to do this at my old coffee shop job. It was a major chain but I'll avoid mentioning the name.

We had a maple syrup for our oatmeal so I suggested a Vanilla Maple Syrup Breve and called it the Waffle Breve. My boss told me we couldn't use the maple syrup so I think we replaced it with another flavor. (Probably Cinnamon)

Waffle Breve. Made a sign for it and everything. Good times. It peaked the interest of the more adventurous customers. It wasn't far off from a Vanilla latte so it was well-received for those who dared to try one.

Wow that wound so fun and delicious

I’ve seen places like mall kiosks create drinks and put up a chalk sign with “only available at this location” before.

We have created things in our licensed store. Our corporate encourages custom drinks, especially frappuccinos (those make big $)
Most popular has been a couple of different shaken refreshers/lemonade/infusions (juice now), leave out the dry fruit, and a big splash of PT on top for a beautiful ombre look. Chalked them to entice the nearby high schoolers looking for a fun drink for the gram. Us adults know they would all be amazing with a little vodka added...
Best was MDR+pineapple inf+ lemonade. Gone forever now 😞

We have the idea for a frap with sweet cream at my store but alas, it won’t ever get up to corporate so we can try it.
sarextrashaken [OP]10 points4y ago
Ugh that would be good and a good way to overprice drinks 😂🙌🤑

recipe?

I love this idea, I've tried telling my manager about having a Barista's choice kind of thing ( I work at a kiosk with at least 7 people on staff)

Corporate: YOu nEeD tO cOnnECt WItH cUStoMeRS!!!
Also Corporate: Literally never communicates with us

Regardless if this is a somewhat thing (let's be honest corporate won't really listen to any submits) this is a wonderful idea and I hope it one day takes off. I love Starbucks and working there has changed my life, truly. I have found a career for myself through this job. But, if they don't start listening to employers, especially with it being 2019), I sadly will have to part ways. I, for some reason, still have hope that they will eventually listen to their E M P L O Y E E S, actual certified drink makerrrrriesss. But nah, probably not.
espressnooo3 points4y ago
Also to add, if they paid more attention to baristas it may increase the drive of employees for people who ACTUALLY want to be baristas, take the coffee industry seriously, instead of people looking at this job no differently than a McDonald's job. Which, by the way, I don't disagree with their outlooks as of lately. We are no different than any other fast food joint anymore. We just also sell coffee 😓

Ask your DM. That’s the only way you’ll be able to be given time.

There is https://ideas.starbucks.com—not sure who looks at them but it’s at least something? If it makes you feel any better, there are two ‘hack’ weeks a year for sbux tech where we literally make things that could be great for a lot of people but they don’t do anything with those ideas either. 😒
lily36002 points4y ago
Some stores do a “baristas pick” of the week where it’s a barista’s fave drink + what’s in it! Even if it’s not nationwide, it’s still a good idea to attract customers who are looking for something new :-)
sarextrashaken [OP]2 points4y ago
True!!! Sounds like a good way to interact with customers and have a special partner every now and then
NOTcreative-2 points4y ago
Barista championships. If you get high enough the last level last year was each partner created and submitted a drink then had it featured in their area. Also, you can submit ideas to corporate too :)
Nig_Bigga42069-7 points4y ago
Why would you bust your ass trying to create drinks for Starbucks? Suppose that your drink wins the competition, you'll only make them richer. You get zero royalties. Sounds like a fun competition but only if you keep it between your store. Fuck Starbucks
sarextrashaken [OP]7 points4y ago
Alrighty then lol it was more of a fun thing than something to bust your ass for

Don't be a dick by shitting on someone else's parade. Let them have their happiness
espressnooo2 points4y ago
Because if you're a barista, you enjoy making drinks. If you aren't a barista, you can't relate. 🤦♀️
