I live in Baton Rouge. I’m not sure who’s all aware, but New Orleans flooded the other day and now we have a big tropical storm/ small hurricane heading our way . Most businesses are closing around here, getting ready for what’s supposed to hit tomorrow. I worked my shift today, and we ended up closing the store early, but were told we’d be opening back up for 7 am. Is it just me, or does that seem a little... pointless?
The weather hasn’t been bad yet here. Winds have picked up and it’s rained a bit so I understand underestimating the storm. But they’re estimating 10-15 inches of standing water, hella winds and hard rain for long periods of time. I open tomorrow. I’m so scared to go in, even if the weathers not bad immediately, that I’m going to get stuck there and not be able to leave and be with my family.
What exactly is the protocol for closing the store for weather? I know it’s most likely not on a local level- like the big guns probably call the shots but like, closing the store at 4pm and opening right back up on the day a hurricane is supposed to hit... I just want to know what the benefits of staying open would be?
I’m freaking out, I don’t want to lose my job but I also REALLY don’t want to get stuck in something bad. I’ve lived here my whole life. Louisiana hurricane panic is fucking intense. I just want my team and store to be okay, and this storm to be taken seriously.
