Venti Rant: Can customers stop standing at the handoff plane starring us down while making drinks?? Stop asking if your drink is ready, I will call it out when it’s done. Waiting on food? I don’t have your food sticker I’m on bar....making all the drinks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mebrianne
Stop crowding the handoff plane bc not only are you making us feel crowded and uncomfortable, you are blocking people from grabbing their beverages and THAT is how you leave with the wrong one. ALSO READ THE FUCKING STICKER AND STOP LEAVING WITH ITEMS THAT AREN’T YOURS AND THEN CALLING THE STORE AND BLAMING OUR BARISTAS SAYING YOU GOT THE WRONG DRINK???! you guys know better and I’m over it.
sarextrashaken 93 points 4y ago
Period. I’ve learned I can’t assume the best in customers anymore. Matter of fact, I can’t even assume they have common sense. Because they don’t.
AyFuego 94 points 4y ago
OH MAN you just reminded me of this stupid motherfucker from my shift last night. He picked up a mobile order, which was a highly custom mocha frap.

He looks at me while drinking it and says 'Was this the only thing on the order?' and I reply 'Well sir what's the name on the order?'

He says 'Victor'. I immediately realize that's NOT the name on the mobile order he's currently drinking. That mobile order said 'Moose and Frog' for the name.

I say 'Sir that's not your order, I'm going to have to remake that because you've been drinking it'.

So he laughs, takes another couple long gulps, and hands it back to me with this shit eating grin on his face.

The best part? This motherfucker's actual order was an iced coffee.

So either he was legally brain dead or just wanted to take someone else's frap.
sarextrashaken 35 points 4y ago
Honestly I don’t get how people can be so blatantly FUCKING STUPID. No matter the explanation, it will never make sense to me.
dxlta 6 points 4y ago
I’ve had people do stupid stuff like this basically hourly, and it ultimately comes down to the counter. Since we’re behind the counter, we have to obey and respect every single customer’s wishes, since “tHe cUsTOmEr iS aLwAys riGhT.” What a load of horse shit that is in this day and age, those boomers need to learn that houses don’t cost a buck fifty anymore and that people actually have to work for a living.
rainyraine 3 points 4y ago
I'm glad you reacted this way on Reddit cuz by golly Ive been holding in my anger and same frustration to myself. Everytime I make these new fucking tik tok drinks and iced refreshers with no ice but then a venti cup of ice, teens crowds behind the bar counter and I just INSTANTLY lose my mood. It's uncomfortable. My rbf face shows it all.

And that guy is a complete dunce. He deserves to have his drink sticker slapped on upside-down. (worse thing I do when I'm annoyed at a customer hah)
kayelaine1 1 points 4y ago
Holy shit I haven’t had to do this yet.... I rue the day
radpandaparty 7 points 4y ago
The number of times I've been asked if we heat up the grilled cheese sandwiches which are covered in butter and on the refrigerated shelves is startling
ellllla_ 60 points 4y ago
Okay may I add I also feel like it is VERY rude to ask the barista for water while they’re busy on bar. Because they are asking a barista rather than asking the front, there is not a sticker in sequence so we have to figure out when to sequence the water in while they’re staring us down. You want a water? Order. A. Damn. Water. ....... ESPECIALLY when there is no line at front
karliseofdeath 58 points 4y ago
This is literally the biggest unanimous pet peeve of all my coworkers. Once during rush I was working pos and there was only one person working bar, and this guy asks my coworker if he can get a cup for water and my coworker looks at him and goes “it might take a few minutes sir” and the guy rudely says back to him “why it’s just a water?” and my coworker says “well I have to get all these drinks done for the people that waited in line before I can get a drink for someone that didn’t wait in line.” He’s my hero.
e_thecaffeinefiend 12 points 4y ago
He’s the hero we all need.
karliseofdeath 6 points 4y ago
His nickname at work is Mr.Starbucks after standing up to a rude customer and her going “oh because Mr.Starbucks over here knows everything!”
ellllla_ 6 points 4y ago
Ugh, the bravery. I’ve wanted to say that so many times
karliseofdeath 7 points 4y ago
He talks back to the customers so nicely that they don’t even realize he’s talking back to them
lnrpkrj 12 points 4y ago
The Starbucks next to my apartment just sets out a bunch of tall cups next to a water dispenser. I supposed they got tired of the same thing.
alien-emoji 7 points 4y ago
I’ve started just saying, “Sure, you can order one up front.” and just turn away. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It needs to be put in anyway for labor, right? Not my problem. When it’s a sticker, it’s my problem.
creepygirl420 3 points 4y ago
I think some of them do that because they’re under the impression they will have to pay if they order it at the register? It seems to be a pattern for some people
creepygirl420 56 points 4y ago
Read 👏🏼 the 👏🏼 fucking 👏🏼 sticker 👏🏼
kellybeereed 10 points 4y ago
I hate when people read the sticker, then turn the cup towards me and say, “is this mine?”

Like I’m sorry... but if it says your name... and it’s the drink you ordered... then YES
barista_bear 45 points 4y ago
The person making drinks isn’t responsible for your food. Period. Go ask someone else. End rant.
SeriousPillowfight 27 points 4y ago
At a Tarbucks they are. Unfortunately. We don’t do “plays.” Not enough staff. 😞
books-coffee-bb99 20 points 4y ago
I work Tarbucks too and after a DM visit our SETL wanted us to start doing plays 🙄 made zero sense to all of us and we never did it bc we don’t have enough people
Koalastars009 11 points 4y ago
Yes!! At ours I’m left working solo the majority of the shift with a huge line of families!
1h20girl24 8 points 4y ago
I know!! Tarbucks always gets big groups of teenagers and families! And usually only 1 or 2 people working at all times!! It's always a zoo at ours...
MamaRedCard 41 points 4y ago
I had two TD fraps yesterday for different guests on the bar at the same time. I called out both names and drinks, yet Janice picks up Christina’s cup and proceeds to inform me that “my name is Janice. How did you get Christina from Janice? You need to listen better.” I responded with “ma’am I need you to put that drink down because that is for Christina. Your drink is right here and it clearly says Janice on the cup.”
We’re almost done with the tiedye monstrosity friends. We can do this.
karliseofdeath 22 points 4y ago
‘YOU NEED TO LISTEN BETTER’ 🙃🙃🙃

Ma’am you need to learn to read! I once called out an iced mocha for a Taylor that clearly had TAYLOR written on the side and this Karen who had JUST finished paying tried to walk up and grab the drink and I had to stop her and tell her that wasn’t her drink, then she asked where hers was, so I asked her which one was hers and she had an iced chai that was three drinks away
hippovomit 27 points 4y ago
the worst part is when they look at you like ‘IS THIS MY DRINK’ i literally have NO IDEA WHO YOU ARE?????? i’m just making the drinks that are printed out how the fuck would i know if it’s your drink Karen
guitarbr0 9 points 4y ago
"what's your fucking **name**."
hippovomit 5 points 4y ago
or the worst one yet
in the middle of making at least twenty drinks at once
‘can i get a venti water’
PLEASE
JUST
ORDER
IT
AT
THE
REGISTER
ITS NOT EVEN HARD
steam_rolls 25 points 4y ago
I hate it when they ask me where their banana nut bread is, or where the bacon gouda that they ordered is and I’m solo bar. Like I can’t run a grab that for you. I have a line of drinks to make and can’t just stop what I’m doing, run to the other side of the store and heat and or grab your food and bring it back to you, especially if I’m already behind on making drinks.

Also reading the sticker, it’s not that hard to do, most of the time the sticker is visible on the cup or you just need to move the sleeve slightly to see what it says.
PumpkinMacchiato 21 points 4y ago
Had a guy today stand there for like 10 minutes. I called out his drink about 5 times and then the last time I called it out he got pissed saying “I’ve been standing here for a while now I didn’t know this was mine” so I go “yessir that’s why I called it out...” he stormed out huffing and puffing.
karliseofdeath 15 points 4y ago
I love when Todd’s do that and I’m looking right at them bc I know it’s their drink and they’re still not fucking grabbing it.
SuperficiallyTrivial 20 points 4y ago
“Is this my drink?” I don’t know Karen, does the sticker read “Massive Bitch”?
littleedge 18 points 4y ago
Would anyone like a non-Partner to sit near their handoff and make the snarky comments you guys aren’t allowed to say to the stupid customers in these situations? I volunteer as tribute.
lilcox1419 6 points 4y ago
This needs to be a position offered by any company other than Starbucks, obvs. Pay based on how much one can berate unruly customers. No sick time needed, just come in and cough on rude ppl’s drinks/food. Bonus pay for chasing out idiots if they stop coming to the store. Etc.
curlygreenbean 13 points 4y ago
“IS THIS MY SMALL HOT LATTE???!??!!!” *holds up a trenta ice water*
benyjair 12 points 4y ago
“This doesn’t taste like a caramel macchiato”
.. because it wasn’t your f****** drink
AllieCraft 12 points 4y ago
I usually sit down by handoff and watch because I find it interesting. I hope I’m not making anyone uncomfortable D:
indynyx 10 points 4y ago
I did this before I became a partner, and I still do it as a partner. 🤦‍♀️

I think it's neat to watch the way other stores are run, or where they keep their stock in comparison to mine for the storefront to run.
AgustDRapmon 3 points 4y ago
Ha I'm guilty of this too
julesbusev 9 points 4y ago
It’s not a problem if you’re just watching bc it’s interesting. We have a bar-style seating area right next to our hand off plane and I love talking to the customers that sit and drink there when I’m barring. It’s when people crowd bc they think I’ll get their drink faster that I get extremely irritated.
insomniac8831 6 points 4y ago
My husband does this too! He says it’s really interesting as well and loves watching the drinks be made. since I started working there I tell him to either sit down by the hand off at our little bar or go find a place to sit because the person making drinks may not like it lol
callalilykeith 3 points 4y ago
I know not to stare but sometimes my toddler really wants to watch people make drinks. I make sure we aren’t in the way and I hold him over my shoulder so he’s facing the people making the drinks and I’m not, lol.

I used to be a barista & hated it when people watched me, but I’m not sure if people care about a toddler.
510CK 10 points 4y ago
We were busy at my store & the person we have a front is an older person who is very slow! We were making drinks and had many to make and a customer got my partners attention from the line, threw his hands up in the air and asked, “well, what are you doing???” -.- we’re making drinks what does it like like dude
dalenakitty 7 points 4y ago
I hate when people ask me about food. Our ovens are literally on the opposite side of the store. Do you really think I have any idea when your order will be ready? Have some common fucking sense and don't bother me about it because I am going to be very short with you and point out the obvious.
meen0ru 2 points 4y ago
Honestly, this is the fault of the person at POS (unless there's a warming partner,) gotta coach em to grab the food before they finish ringing cos there's no way the bar person could just stop in the middle of sequence to get a muffin. Also, as POS, I like to say, "you'll get everything at the end of the bar when it's ready," so that way the customer isn't confused as to why it isn't there yet. Usually they're not. xD
spartasmomma 7 points 4y ago
They’re vultures
artemisxfowl 5 points 4y ago
I purposely got my drink named for John Cena, and someone still took it. 😭 I thought no one would be able to see it but me. *ribshot*
spoopy_ruby 4 points 4y ago
An americano spilled off the handoff plane today and got a woman but like (and I know I’m going to hell for this) she wouldn’t have got hot coffee on her if she wasn’t hovering
Kaylushhh 4 points 4y ago
This! Thank you.
coupleofheads 2 points 4y ago
We have a bar at the handoff plane where customers can sit on the end and basically just hawk us and see the whole floor it’s so fuckin annoying
sadxtortion 1 points 4y ago
as a customer, sometimes there’s literally no sticker on drinks in person so when two of the same drinks are called at the same time it is very confusing
mebrianne [OP] 4 points 4y ago
See and that’s fine. I have customers who are really nice and it’s not a problem. The ones who constantly ask, yell at us, belittle us and make us feel uncomfortable are the ones I’m talking about.
