nervous green bean (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by amcc04
I’m officially starting Monday :) but I’m super nervous (and excited)

I know I’m going to sit down with my SM for a bit, and then I’m gonna start working with my trainer. I was hoping y’all could tell me what to look forward to, or give me an idea of what’s gonna happen. I really wanna do my best.

if anyone has any tips or advice for this new green bean, I’d really appreciate it ❤️

If you feel like you're standing around doing nothing because everyone had to run off to do something, phrases like "want me to do a bus?" or "I can change these full garbages" are golden. Don't be afraid to ask questions and show initiative if there's something that needs to be done that you feel confident doing. Good luck! :)

Agree! I love green beans who ask, “Is there anything I could be doing right now?” because usually there is but I don’t want to overwhelm them with tasks and I want to ease them into it. Asking questions shows you care, and your team and the customers will appreciate you for it. Also, always ask if you’re not sure about something, like how to make a drink. It’s better than guessing because in my experience, they usually guess wrong.

This here. Just show you’re a hard worker and willing to learn. You’d really have to do something awful to get fired, so don’t stress. Everyone has been new at some point. And they won’t throw you into something before you’re ready. It might seem like a lot at first, especially drinks and cashiering during rush, but you’ll learn. I started brand new, no experience July of 2017. Was super shy at first. By the spring I transferred to one of the busiest locations in the city and was the main barista on bar. You’ll do great!

It’s going to feel overwhelming at first, but that’s completely normal! There’s a lot of new information when you first start training, but no one expects you to be perfect on your first day (or even your first month for that matter). Don’t be afraid to ask questions, everyone in your store is there to help!

This! I had a decent amount of food service experience before working at sbux but for the first few weeks I was convinced I couldn't do it. It is NOT true, and it passes!

Don’t be nervous! Likely they will have you start with your training videos and then give you a tour of the store and have you practice on register. Just pay attention to the training videos and be sure to ask any questions you have, on your first day or even your first week don’t feel bad for asking! 😊 also just so you know, our registers look like a lot but they are pretty self explanatory so don’t be too worried. If you have any other concerns feel free to ask! Partners love when green beans WANT to learn!

For the rest of your time at Starbucks don’t feel bad for asking questions. Not just your first week

The training will feel rushed. Realize a lot of your training will come from on the floor experience. Ask all the questions. If something doesn't make sense, ask for explanations. I had 0 coffee knowledge when I started. 4 year partner now.

You’ll do great! Nothing to worry about. Just be honest with your trainer when you’re confused or overwhelmed. That’s what they’re there for!

There is a lot to learn. Do not get overwhelmed, no ones expects you to be perfect on your first a week, let alone first month or year. I’m an almost 3 year partner in line for management and I still learn new things on a regular basis. At the end of the day it’s just coffee. Don’t be afraid to show your humanity, admit mistakes, and even tell your customers you’re new. People understand. Have fun! Get to know your regulars and they will become like extended family. Ask all the questions.

Depending on the store layout this may or may not be true. When it’s during a rush or peak hours, you are going to be in the way or feel like you are in the way sometimes.

It’s normal and it’s just a part of working at Starbucks. I’ve worked at 2 stores and worked at a mall kiosk. Things get hectic and people can be all over the place trying to get drinks made and out.

Don’t focus/worry on that and just focus on what needs to be done or what task you are doing and just be accommodating to your partners. We all understand how things can be.

We’ve had a fair amount of green beans come through our store to train because of new stores opening nearby. I notice a huge productivity boost and less anxiety when I share this to them.

Good Luck!

Everyday that I clock in for work at Starbucks I’m excited because I know that it clears my mind from what’s happening around my in the world and I can focus on things that I like to do, and doing that thing well. Especially when I’m on CS it’s calming to do dishes and just clean and stock things and everything. There honestly isn’t one position in my store that I hate with a passion. Everyone at Starbucks is super open and fun to work with, so don’t be worried and ask all of the questions!
