When I started my job at Starbucks I was ecstatic. I’ll always be grateful to my store manager for taking a chance on me and allowing me to find out I had a passion for coffee.

I will never forget the times my partners and I sang to each other with Modern Baseball songs when we were sad or the times we rocked it out during rushed and peaks.

I’ll be starting at a local coffee shop today. I’ll be trained on the barista craft by one of the best in my state, who opened the shop to give others a space to share their passion for coffee. It’s scary to leave this place, that gave me a safety net of leaving a job that I suffered a lot of mental abuse at.

To my fellow partners, kill the rest of your fucking career here. It’s a great company and you will meet some amazing people. I wish you all the best and may you also reach the day where you never have to argue over the difference between a macchiato and Frappuccino again.

Fellow 261(8***) and also left for a local coffee shop because Starbucks helped me discover a love and passion for coffee outside of drinking it. Best of luck. You’re gonna love it!

My advice though is look up as much as you can handle about coffee because specialty coffee is a whole different world. (Make sure if you’re not already familiar with it you know what a *REAL* macchiato is

I had my first day and had to do a blind cupping! Aced it as much as someone from corporate world probably could. I have zero regrets AND knew what a real macchiato was before they told me;)

Honestly, when I interviewed (and applied) I mentioned I worked at Starbucks but used it as a way to talk about how it allowed me to learn that I have a passion for coffee! Being a Starbucks doesn’t make us baristas, none of us can pack or pull a shot, none of us can steam milk by hand BUT a few of us want to learn. Just let them know you’re passionate and willing to learn! My shop owner actually said she’s more comfortable that I’m not starting completely from scratch and have a good background in cleanliness, FIFO, and customer service standards because of it. Also, just be genuine. Rock their fuckin world with your coffee passion and hatred of corporate. We love a caffeinated socialist!
