I hate this and I will usually turn my back to them purposely while I finish their drink.

Ugh I relate. But also *Sometimes* I feel like they genuinely enjoy watching how we make the drinks too though which I don’t mind. I enjoy hearing the “ooh’s and aah’s” while I’m making a a complicated cool looking drink ^_^

That's definitely me, I love watching baristas work

I don’t know what bitchy being downvoted your comment but I’m upvoting it because it was clearly innocently said.

I appreciate you seeing it as what it is, I am never critical of the barista I just really enjoy it. I always smile at them while I watch, partly because I just can't help myself, I always feel impressed at their skill and just genuinely enjoy watching it - I sometimes watch videos online of baristas working, that's how much I enjoy it

I also enjoy just watching. I don’t stand too close and one that I visit, has high chairs right next to the hand off area and so I’ll always just grab a sit there. Perfect to watch and I figure it’s better than standing right at the counter.

This wasn't a customer "tip" post, this was a "relatable" post of what some people think sometimes. This could apply to any other job that involves doing things for people. And you can distinguish which customers like what they're seeing because it brings enjoyment to make delicious foods and drinks for others. Making drinks is all about measuring and checking temperatures, quality and taste. So when a customer watches with excitement and wonder it makes you feel good and proud of your work. I'm not talking about those amazing customers. I'm referring to those who are just standing there trying to make last minute changes or who stare you down because not all of their drinks are ready.

We have a sweet older lady who likes watching her drink be made and everyone at my store is annoyed by her... I genuinely don’t understand why it’s annoying? She’s spending like $5 on coffee. She can watch if she wants.

I just really enjoy watching the process. I had a barista stare me down once because I was watching from a table and I was seated. These types of experiences make me not want to go back.

Then sorry to disappoint you. Not everybody likes being stared down and taking last minute requests each time they're doing something
blubutin 1 points 4y ago
I didn't do any of that. I smiled and made no added requests.
