Tips for a new struggling barista (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by gr00vez
So today was my first shift on drive thru and I was completely flustered. I didn’t have a DTO for like 20 mins. I couldn’t hear really well and I felt like I kept making the customers wait for too long. I was just wondering if anyone has tips on how you got more comfortable starting out!

I like to say “thank you for your patience” since it’s a more positive way to phrase it, doesn’t feel like it’s admitting a fault, and subtly encourages them to act like they were being patient. >>

Agreed.

"I'm sorry you chose to come to a busy coffee shop and were too lazy to get our of your car and are now stuck in a line of cars you cannot escape. Perhaps you will reconsider your life choices but until then, I'll see you tomorrow."

admitting your faults is a great way to humanize yourself.

but i live in the south and we're all friendly here, so ymmv.

In fairness, a lot of the time when I say it is because of being busy, not due to an actual fault.
