So many drinks (besides frappuccinos) are being asked to be blended and it is ruining my store’s blender... anyone else? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sbucksbarista
I’m just coming on here to ask if anyone else has been having the problem where people are asking for anything from strawberry refreshers (the tik tok drink) to cold brews and iced skinny mochas blended. My store is one of the busiest in Massachusetts and we only have one blender and my managers as well as myself are very concerned that our blender is just going to up and break.

On that same note, we have also been asked to make the worst possible “secret menu” frappuccinos that don’t really affect the blender, they’re just a pain in the ass to make. Like, one person came into the store and asked for a cake pop blended into her frappuccino. I was on the espresso bar but my two coworkers on cold bar were not very happy about it.

My point is, does anyone else have this problem? Is there any way we can tell them no to blending their outrageous drinks?

i'm pretty sure you're not allowed to blend food in the blenders?

My shift that day was very against it, but my store manager said that since it is a product provided by the store we can blend it, so we did.

Definitely not supposed to put cakepops in the blender though, or real food in general.

That’s what I thought and my shift was very against it, but my store manager said since we offer the product we can put it in. I still completely disagree with him, not only is it going to contribute to breaking our blenders but it is a pain in the ass to make.

SM days yes, then you do it.

You are not going to get in trouble for buying new blender blade assemblies, your SM will.

Why would it break? You use the same ice for frappaccinos that you use for iced versions of everything else.

Now,i agree it's annoying to blend iced coffees and refreshers and yes, we get a lot too. But it's annoying because the builds are different more than anything. But I've never been worried about the blenders so I'm curious.

My SM is mostly worried because of all the dried fruit we are putting in the blenders for the tik tok drinks, as well as that some customers will ask us to not put any of the frap base tomake the blending smoother. It makes it tougher on the ice and the blades at the bottom I guess?

I know my store had a second blender that broke before I started (for reference I am 27xxxxx), so I think a lot of everyone’s worry is that we will have no blender if this one breaks, and as a very busy store with lots of kids who come in, not having a blender would really effect us.

Theyre used to be official frappaccinos that used the dried fruit. They tasted like pie. I've been at my store almost 6 years and we've only lost 1 blender but it only takes a week to get a new one.

Do you only have 1 blender?
sbucksbarista [OP] 5 points 3y ago
Yup, only one blender. We are one of the busiest stores in my state so I bet you can imagine frappy hour is a trainwreck, especially when groups of middle schoolers come in looking for their tik tok drinks too.
robotcrackle 6 points 3y ago
That's crazy. Sequencing must be impossible. We'd use 3 blenders if we had the counter space. I thought every store had to have at least 2.

Why does your store only have one blender if it’s so busy?
traumstdu 2 points 3y ago
Over counter blenders cost roughly $500. In counter cost $700. (Not including shroud). Most stores make that profit in a few hours.

Even stores that aren't busy can afford a new blender, so unfortunately, corporate will say keep on blending that shit that shouldn't be blended. :(

Also, *blade* kits for the *pitcher* are inexpensive and can be ordered weekly. Are you talking literal blenders or the pitcher?

(Although your SM is breaking policy re: blending food. Regardless of if it's ours or not, no blendy.)

Would that include bananas? Sometimes customers come into my store asking for bananas to be blended into their Frappuccinos
thingwithfeathers38 1 points 3y ago
There's a button on the POS that says add banana, and we have a couple regulars who love that button, so I assume its intentional.

Food is under no circumstances allowed in the blender
