My advice would be to call during 9-5 and ask for a hiring manager. Usually you be put on with someone who can actually look at applications, so an assistant manager or a store manager.
Calling after applying helps with showing interest a lot, and definitely can help with getting an interview.
To give a few fair tips and warnings about applying for positions at Starbucks:
1. I applied to every store in a 20mi radius to me about 5 times before getting an interview, and it was over a year after my first applications before I ever got one. So if you are set on working at Starbucks like I was, don’t give up if you don’t hear back. In addition, I’d your set on Starbucks, apply to any Starbucks you’d be willing to drive to to work instead of a single location.
2. While they *do* hire minors, it’s much harder to get a position at Starbucks if you are one due to all the restrictions minors have on them legally and policy wise. You most definitely can be hired, but most store managers will look for over-18s first.
3. Make sure the store you applied to is hiring. Some stores (mine does this) leave the applications online at all times, but aren’t always actively hiring all the time. A good way to tell is going in store and either look for a hand written notice that says “we’re hiring” or asking to speak to a supervisor and asking directly if they’re active hiring. I personally only figured this out after applying to a store that had signs on the chalk boards and registers saying “Now hiring”.
3.1 If a store isn’t hiring, you could ask if they know of any other locations in the area that may be hiring. Chances are at least one of them needs some help.
Hopefully some of this helps. That’s about all I can think of to help you secure an interview.
