They take the total tips and divide by the total number of labor hours in your store (for everyone); that gives you a rate per hour which is multiplied my the number of hours you worked that week to get the tip amount you receive.

I’ve worked at both places actually. When I worked at Dunkin, the day was divided into 3 parts: morning, evening, and overnight. Tips were dispersed evenly at the end of every shift to whoever was working that shift on that day. Sometimes you made good tips, sometimes not. I would sometimes make $20-25 per day and others I would walk out with $4 in tips, depending on how many people were working and how generous customers were that particular day. Mornings always made good tips because the most business happens then, overnight was hit or miss because there’s only 2-4 people working. Evenings always sucked because DD is far less busy between 2-10pm. Simply, you split the tips you made each day with the people you worked with.
At Bux, the tips are collected all week and put into a pot. They’re counted once per week and the total tip $ is divided by the total number of hours worked in the store for all baristas and SSVs. Then that number is multiplied by the number of hours worked for each person. So the more hours you work, the more tips you make, regardless of when those tips were given.
