“I didn’t like my tall pike coffee, so instead I want you to give me a grande latte for free” (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by randowanderer
I die when customer pull this shit. Like, I just made the coffee, and every time there’s “something wrong with it”. Maybe you just dknt like black coffee and you should go for the more expensive drink instead of saying “the quality of service and drinks here have really gone down” TO MY FACE AS I MAKE YOU A FREE COFFEE FOR THE FOURTH TIME IN A ROW! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😱😱

I hate people like this, or people you pretned to have ordered something and said "you didnt get it?!" Omg and then they get a free drink because we want them away from us. See today i helped someone out who was 10 cents short, they always come in and are always nice. If you're nice we'll be nice back but dont demand things jeez lol

I honestly think it’s a “power” thing. At my last job I would see this all the time. Some people just enjoy having other people do what they want. I once saw a woman burn her mouth with fries that were still dripping with hot oil because she wanted them straight from a fryer. She couldn’t talk but gave a thumbs up! Best day ever! But we do have regulars that yell instructions at us from the bar like we’re going to poison them or something. Really I do wonder if these people do this sort of thing everywhere they go.

At my store we get this lady and her family who call the store every couple of weeks saying that we messed up something in their order or that they’re missing things and that we need to give them a refund and/or give them their drinks for free. The first few times we were like “okay...” but when we noticed that all of them were together (whenever they called they said “my mom/sister/daughter/husband ordered...” and we began to notice they were all in the same big red car) one of the shifts said that if she wanted her drinks she had to come in that same day and that would be the last time she’d get a remake. The woman didn’t come in for about two weeks but when she did she had a receipt she’d clearly gotten from the trash that didn’t have the right date from her “order”. Needless to say we are tired of this family

What kills me the most is that these people are teaching their children to do this shit. Like really? Is that how you want your kids to remember you, as being the buttheads who got away with cheap scams?
cloudymacchiato 5 points 3y ago
I know! But with this family they’re all well over 30 so they are all adults. It’s incredibly annoying and we’ve heard around that they’re going around to different stores in the area doing the same thing.

Just contact your district manager and tell them, because when you finally do stand up against them they are going to be shocked wondering why EVERYONE is saying we can’t help them. We had something similar with a woman and her family about her coming in the moment we opened and said she’d want a refill, even though we could clearly see her pick up a cup out of the trash thru the windows...like 1) we just opened there is no way THATS your refill
2) I saw you pick it out of the trash that’s why you need a “new” cup, because the first time I didn’t know she’d be taken it out of the trash cuz I was new and dumb and she spat out the coffee, said i was trying to kill her and stormed off after I gave her a new coffee and cursing me out
Like...wtf?!? But we contacted corporate after seeing what she was doing, finding out she was doing this at other stores, and she eventually just paid for her cups because they threatened to revoke her account for “free refills” and that scared her more then dirty cups from the trash refills 👌🏽

I’ll let my sm know whenever I see him! I do know that there’s times when we’ve tried reporting things and we’ve followed the rules, the customer gets away with it and we just have to deal with it. For example, this woman gets a trents refresher when she comes in but then gets it refilled with black tea or something before she leaves and she only pays the refill price, all because one of our previous dms said to just do it. We also have another guy who just kept pestering the dm and sm with phone calls saying he wanted a refund for something we “didn’t give him” or something like that and instead of telling the man NO he got a gift card w like $40 on it. I hope this time around, if the family comes through the DM will put a stop to them because the amount of frappuccinos we remake for them is worth around $20+

Yeah had a lady tryna pull this at my LS location, and my manager was there for it every time and told her if she doesn't stop scamming us she'll get her 86'd off the property.

Someone came in and ordered a tall Carmel ribbon crunch then demanded we make her A VENTI MOCHA COOKIE CRUMBLE because there was too much CARMEL in the CARMEL ribbon crunch 🙃🙃🙃

All I know is that a shift at my store denied making an iced espresso with “extra extra extra almond milk” today and I’ve never been so satisfied to see someone be turned away before.
She tried to say the whole “I’ve ordered this before” thing but she drove away when they told her if it’s more than a splash we’re charging her for an iced latte. ☺️
randowanderer [OP] 3 points 3y ago
Winning! But seriously, you think these people are being smart but there’s a BOOK called “life hacks” that tells you little things like the “order extra milk” at Starbucks
CalDoesMaths 7 points 3y ago
Honestly I’m extremely over people trying this stuff, and after seeing shifts turn people away, in definitely not worried about doing it myself any longer.

If someone has good intentions and there was an actual mistake, of course i’ll remake their drink. But if someone tries to pull a “I actually ordered a venti iced macchiato, not a tall hot coffee” i’m going to legitimately tell them to go talk to the person standing at the cart behind the pastries about it.

I’m sure this makes me sound bitter, but my store is one of the largest in our district, and our peaks are extraordinarily busy, and being bothered on bar to make drinks for someone who wants to save a buck is just a huge time waster and day ruiner.

On a similar note, there's a TIKTOK (overly used trademark name that I refuse to understand) video, where someone tells you to order a tall TIKTOK drink and then tell the barista you ordered a venti instead. Thus, they get the free venti :)
gloing 7 points 3y ago
Hey if the sticker prints out a tall that means they paid for a tall that means I’m making them a tall. “Oh, you wanted a venti? Sure, just hop right back in line and I’ll ring you up for the difference.”
rainyraine 7 points 3y ago
I cry. I wish I can way that to their face :(
I just take the drink back and add more ingredients to it.
And when I see the tik tok drink I slap the sticker on the sirens eye lmfao. No Snapchat/IG pic for u fam

I'm confused... If it was the drip coffee he didn't like, how did you "remake" it? Did you just pour a new coffee from the same batch? Or did he wait for four separate batches?

At any rate, I would say it's fair for someone to want a different drink entirely if the one they ordered is no good and they'd have to wait upwards of five minutes for a new one (i.e., how long it takes to brew coffee).
randowanderer [OP] 16 points 3y ago
I had just made the batch, like seriously I just switched it to the pike heat plate after the timer went off. I tell him it’s fresh cuz the last 3 times he did it he said it was like warm and I knew for a fact it was piping hot. So I give it to him, I go back to bar because our register guy got back from getting some stuff for RTD, and no more then 2 seconds later he goes up to another partner and says he doesn’t like his coffee because it’s cold and taste weird. The coffee he said he couldn’t DRINK and dumped it in our condiment bar trash....so then the partner comes up to me with the same thing “can you make him a grande latte he said he didn’t like his coffee” and I’m sorry but if after the 3 time you don’t like the coffee at this Starbucks, maybe it is us, I REALLY DONT KNOW. But then just order something you know you do like. Like the grande latte that he has us make every time we give him a coffee and he says something is wrong with it. Like, is that not a little frustrating? If after the 3 time if I know I just made that coffee, and no one before or after has had an issue, like what’s your issue with it?
Saoirse_Says 9 points 3y ago
Okay yeah no that's different than what I pictured lol. For one, I can't imagine thinking fresh Starbucks coffee is at all cold. It's scaldingly hot! Like I assume you could feel the heat through the cup (we have a broken urn that frequently gets colder than the others and the difference is certainly noticeable!). Also Starbucks urns don't even get cold; they just eventually burn the coffee lol.

But yeah that's super weird and man that pouring stuff out into the garbage is a huge peeve of mine. I think a lot of customers think it's no big deal though. Yesterday a customer walked up to me, and I forget our exchange, but at one point they were like I'll just dump out the coffee into the garbage and I'm like NO I WILL DO THAT FOR YOU ALLOW ME lol.
