How would you guys do it in the US? Customer Handling (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by reidx879
Hi all:) hello from Germany, I am a green bean barista in Cologne and I would like to vent and ask for help about customer handling (idk if it is the right word?)

So we have this one US customer that always come to order double espresso, 7 pumps hazelnut, 7 pumps simple syr, extra ice In a Venti cup and ofc he insisted we should only book the double espresso and the extra hazelnut syrup following with pouring all of our condense milk in his cup. It is actually not allowed here but he said it is ok in US, in many other starbucks in Germany and he has a family member that owns Starbucks in the US.. im not sure how those stuff should be important at all. He even keep the bills from other starbucks with the same order. And then asking to talk to our general manager and so on .. he really hits my nerve but I am not sure how to handle this next time.. thank you everyone :D

In Canada people do this too it’s a way to scam this system but my sm tells us to always make the moment right, super annoying but that’s what we do

What do you mean the moment right?

Guten Tag. “Make the moment right” means that if there is a problem, we try to find a quick solution.

So for some customers, “make the moment right” would mean if they do not like the flavor of their coffee, we make another one for free that they like. We want to make sure they leave happy.

Aka let customers get away with everything and let staff be walked on constantly

But he comes in twice a week with the same problem man '-' he knows he is not allowed to do it and he WAITS UNTIL A NEW BEAN GET A CASHIER om*g

In this case, I wouldn’t consider it a “make the moment right” situation. He clearly knows what he is doing. I would instruct the cashiers to say (es tut Meer leit I think) “I’m sorry, but it is now our store policy to charge for that. Do you still want it?”

If he says that he has done it before, apologize, but be firm that your store’s policy has changed.

I just spent a month in Germany and the menu is super different from the US one, but people only try to be charged for the espresso and pumps and never the milk or cup size. I get people who get angry when I charge for an alternative milk in their latte, etc... with that money pumps of syrup and that attitude, maybe he should consider reevaluating his life lol

What a fun guy.

I wish an American would do this at my store.

I am from the USA living in Germany for the past 1.5 years. At my store he would be charged for the venti and anything else extra. My SM definitely wouldn’t let that fly.
