If the bottom picture was of a non-mixed mocha with all the syrup sitting at the bottom that would be one thing. But the whole flavor profile of a macchiato is ruined by mixing it....

can someone help me understand how to drink iced macchiatos? like with the hot ones you get the espresso first and the nice sweet milk at the end, but when you use a straw for iced it ends up backwards, right?

You technically should be drinking them from a sippy lid/from the top somehow. Starbucks being Starbucks sold it with the straw because most of our client-base won't really understand/care. But if you truly wanted the effect of a macchiato, you can't use the straw.

People are constantly ordering iced caramel macchiatos at my store and then mixing them at the hand off. I always politely mention they can ask for it upside down and then they can get what they actually want and some of them have been rude (surprise, surprise) about it but one girl told me she actually likes to mix it herself so I let that one go.

Edit: also I’ve gotten the iced caramel macchiato upside down no caramel order and called it out as it is, a freaking iced vanilla latte.

i mean... making an iced caramel macchiato doesn’t hurt at all and once the customer has their drink who cares what they do with it. suggesting them to order it upside down just adds an unnecessary step for the POS imo

I normally mix my Caramel Machiattos cause I prefer the top half more cojoined, while the bottom retains the sweet milky flavor. I cant really handle the flavor of straight espresso, it just tastes nasty to me.

That’s fine, to each their own. Like that girl who likes to mix them herself, I get it. Only thing that reeeally gets me is when someone doesn’t order it the way they want it and then I’m met with a scowl.

Everyone in the comments is talking about how the Caramel Macchiato doesn't get mixed, but I think OP is trying to say that it *should* be mixed.
