Same thing happened to me, they made me do solo on drive and it wasn’t busy at the time so I was alright but then it started getting super busy and I was trying to cash out this jerk guy and he wanted all of his drinks remade while I was trying to ring in a person on the headset and the shift came over and asked if I was ok and I literally said “no” and started crying in front of everyone cause I was so overwhelmed, she gave me a 10 and didn’t put me back on drive for the rest of the day. Trust me, it’ll get better

Oh my god, I transferred from a cafe-only store to a new store last fall, having only worked at the one store. So I had zero drive thru experience, and I can 100% sympathize with you on the “being thrown on drive with no clue what you’re doing” thing. It was my first or second day at the new store and since the majority of the stores in my city are drive stores, everyone who transferred from those stores just assumed I could handle being solo drive. And because I had been working for Starbucks for about 5 months, I was capable of every other role, so they didn’t think twice. Well, peak hit, and the CS and I hadn’t clarified who was grabbing/warming food and pastries (they were from a drive store where CS was allowed to prep pastries for the DTO, I was under the assumption that I was grabbing my own food items). Several miscommunications and an embarrassing amount of wasted pastries and sandwiches later, I was on the verge of tears and ended up handing my headset to my shift supervisor, telling her I needed a minute, and running away to the back room to have a full on panic attack/breakdown.
Everyone was super understanding and helped me get the hang of things after that, but if I would have told them sooner that I needed help, I could have avoided sobbing next to the mop sink for 15 minutes lol. If you ever get stuck in a situation like that again, talk to your shift supervisor or a more experienced barista!! Ask for help!! Even if it’s just a quick run down or a “hey, what tab would London fogs be under in the register?”
