I attempted to quit today (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Nalshyu
Yes you read that properly. After 2-1/2 years of being passed up for a promotion to shift I dropped of my letter of resignation (I was on retainer for a while so i could focus on moving me starting another job )

My manager told me another store is looking for a shift and he’d rather transfer me to the promotion then let me quit because I put so much time into Starbucks.

Well I just wanna know what y’all think the chances are he’s lying lol I plan on going to that store tomorrow and talking to some shifts and hopefully the manager.

Transferring was the best thing I did when I was stuck in a situation where my development came to a stand still. My manager didn’t believe in me, but I did. Then at my new store my New manager seen my potential and now with only four years under my belt, I’m proud to say I’m starting the ASM program in my district.

My biggest fear is that I’ll hate it.

Honestly I hate Starbucks but it’s the highest paying thing near me right now that will give me 30-40 hours. I’ll being going from a Drive through store to a cafe store.

I’m hoping the change of scenery might make it easier if not I plan to just quit on the spot and never look back

I think you need to go into this cafe store and prove that you have leadership material. If you start off with great intentions and a good spirit, people will be on your side. Drive thru skills probably shaped you to be quick on your feet. Show that you are owning AND advising and they will be in awe of you. Lead a store project. Maybe even go out of your way during your free time to work on this project, and it will show initiative that a lot of others don’t take. Being a good leader also means seeing the potential for other leaders to take the positions you are moving out of. These are things some of my partners do that amaze me and show me they are ready to step up.

Being a shift sucks. It's not worth it. And that's just the cold truth.

Considering everything required when being a shift leader, its bullshit they only get paid 2 dollars more than baristas.

Starbucks is a cool company and I do enjoy the job sometimes. But when it comes down to it, this job is a lot for just minimum wage. Between the fact that we have to know how to do every job on the floor/multitask and deal with shitty people all day... this job is a nightmare.

I almost quit 3 times this week. My store is a mess and I'm sick of serving coffee to entitled fuckers with a smile.
