Lady DEMANDS a latte for the price of a solo espresso(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by livw17
So I’m on bar and this sticker prints out:
Solo espresso 2% milk Wet No foam
The person on register is new so I make a mental note to tell him that the correct way to ring this up would be a solo macchiato. No big deal right?
I start steaming the milk and pulling the shot when I feel a pair of eyes watching my every move. I look up and see a sweet looking older lady. As I’m starting to pour the milk she says: “make sure there is no foam” and I say “of course”. I take the spoon and pour the proper amount of milk that is required for an espresso macchiato. She tells me to pour more milk. I sigh and pour a bit more. She says “don’t be so stingy and pour the whole damn thing for God’s sake!” I tell her: “ma’am I’m sorry but what you’re asking for is a latte and you only paid for a shot of espresso. I’ll gladly make it for you if you just go around to the register and order a short latte.” Her: “don’t give me a hard time just do as I told you! I’ve been a customer for YEARS and I’m not gonna have you tell me what or what not to order!” Me: “I’m just doing my job ma’am” Drinks are piling up and this lady is on the brink of a full blown tantrum so I reluctantly give her what she wants and she walks away without a thank you.
I know this is so stupid and shouldn’t bother me so much, but fuck- entitled people like this make my blood boil. Don’t get mad at me because you’re little trick to cheat the system doesn’t always work. I have no problem doing nice things for nice customers but people like this make me want to just be a corporate robot and not give anyone the satisfaction of saving a few cents.

We have this girl that orders 3 shots on ice with 4 pumps of white chocolate, and coconut milk. The last time she came in I was feeling particularly annoyed with the vibe of all the guest. So at the handoff she was like can you fill it with milk, I stared her dead in her eyes and kind of aggressively said “so like a latte? Because that’s a latte”
hautsause29 points3y ago
we get a guy who keeps coming to drive thru and going “have you ever heard of a liquid cocaine?” this idiotic thing is just 4 shots with 4 pumps white mocha on ice. but he asks “can you just fill it the rest of the way up with milk?” and when DTO realizes and adjusts it to a white mocha he complains that that’s not what he ordered. uh, yeah it is you jerk.

Some milk is fine. It's when people demand the cup to be filled like a latte but don't want to pay for it.

For the record I didn't downvote you, I was legit asking because of its just a couple inches of soy I'd have no problem. It's just the people who try to make lattes for the price of a shot of espresso who irk us
eatdiamonds1 points3y ago
Nevermind I'm done trying to salvage a post that was supposed to be harmless. I'll prob remove this one later too.

What size cup and do you fill it to the top with soy or just an inch or 2?

These people are the worst. Unfortunately, the baristas who actually ring things in correctly and the shifts who enforce proper POS routines are the ones who get their heads bitten off by these terrible people.

I had a lady come in and order a venti Frappuccino with lots of add one. This one drink came up to like $13.00. She demanded that i charge her for a coffee instead. I was like oh so you want a coffee instead of the frappe? And she flipped her lid, said No are you retarded? Your going to give me the frappe but charge me for a coffee. I laughed so hard she got nothing but booted from my bux. Still cannot believe someone had the gall to talk to me that way.
TheScrantonStranglr27 points3y ago
the fact that you called it a “frappe” tells me how fake this story is

Dear lord I wish

I feel for you dude. I HATE when partners let this shit slide. To me that’s just giving customers an open invitation to yell at baristas doing their job properly, which is just :) super :) shitty :)
submitizenkane10 points3y ago
While I understand your point, it’s a bit unfair to put this on partners when it’s the customer being shitty. I would never blame someone for not wanting to deal with the potential fallout from some asshole who is going to throw a temper tantrum if they don’t get their way. Your comment smacks of victim blaming tbh. There will be people that try to game the system no matter what, regardless of whether a barista has been lenient with the rules in the past. I personally do not mind confrontation so I have no problem standing up to these people, but I also have the self awareness to realize that the same situation could be extremely uncomfortable for someone else.

We have a guy that comes in and does the same thing. He always gets a two shots of espresso in his own small mug with seamed cream but he always wants us to fill it all the way up drives me crazy every time
enjoymyflight6 points3y ago
I hate these customers.

I hate people like this who ruin it for the rest of us. My drink is a Double espresso with 3oz of steamed whole milk. I like a cortado or even a flat white (made the real way) so this is the closest I’m gonna get. I don’t think I’m taking advantage of other Starbucks I go to (when I’m not at the store I work at) because there isn’t a “better” way to ring it in. Maybe a short whole milk latte with an extra shot and an inch and a half of room, but that’s just as complicated and 2x the price. Thoughts??
espressnooo7 points3y ago
It just gonna have to be like that till we get cortados my guy
Leo_br00ks1 points3y ago
Ugh I just want that to happen. But of course we’d need new cups and everything so it’s not gonna happen
espressnooo6 points3y ago
That's literally a short whole milk latte. Not complicated. If you work at Starbucks you hardly ever pay for your drinks anyway, so this is just stupid
Leo_br00ks-1 points3y ago
Well not really. A short whole milk latte with an inch and a half of room and extra shot is correct, but costs $1.00 more with partner discount. That adds up when I get 2 a day every day.
potterlyfe4 points3y ago
I think we may have the same customer! Lol a regular pitched a fit when lattes went up in price so our people pleasing manager decided to ring her up for a solo macchiato instead of the tall latte she gets. So now it’s been like 3 years and she gets a solo macchiato with a cup discount but in reality she’s getting a tall latte with half a raw sugar mixed in and half on top with dense foam so that it creates a mount above the rim. I hate everything about her drink.
spromari3 points3y ago
hate that sooooo much ppl do that shit all the time where i work. you did what you had to do. she’s lucky you were busy.
bbun2232 points3y ago
We have a customer who frequently comes in and wants a venti comfort tea with NO water and steamed coconut milk. A few partners in the past mistakenly only charged her for a tea or a tea with the extra milk charge, but really she’s ordering a steamed milk plus 2 tea bags. When any of us charge her the proper way she throws a FIT.
And of course you get those americano customers who want steamed milk In their drink..... but if you dare charge them for a misto ....watch out. I’ve been on cafe bar and will add no more than an inch of steamed milk to someone paying for an americano and they have the gall to ask me to give them more milk..... I don’t think so. Order your drink the right way and stop trying to cheat the system. Maybe if you were nice about it I would let it slide.
IndustrialBarista2 points3y ago
A lot of people just fill it with the milk on condiment bar. Or when people order a cup of ice and still fill it at the condiment bar. I dont get it
bootrick2 points3y ago
Max 2 oz. of steamed milk complimentary for a single shot IMO. And, that's how I would have made a drink rung up as a solo shot 2% wet no foam. Which, by the way, is contradictory; if it is no foam then it's not wet, and if it's wet then it's not no foam.
Every bitch and bastard who orders like this and then asks to have their cup filled up thinks they are SO smart gaming the system and getting their drink cheaper than they know they should.
Leo_br00ks9 points3y ago
Standard says up to 4oz of milk is “with xyz” so at least honor that
obeehunter5 points3y ago
Right, I remember it being 4oz as well. We have milk carafes. I'm always tempted to tell them that they can fill it up the rest of the way with cold milk from the bar.
Leo_br00ks2 points3y ago
Lmao
stellar_and_cosmic_1 points3y ago
I hate this so much. I get so many orders at my starbucks with thinks like this. There's one lady specifically who orders an iced doppio in a venti cup with coconut milk. And makes us fill the entire cup up with milk. It's ridiculous.
Raelenerosas1 points3y ago
Is that in the beverage resource manual? My manager claims that nowhere does it state that but my previous manager was very strict about it. Because my current manager won’t back me up most of the time I have to let these things slide.
uniquename5671 points3y ago
I always feel like I’m cheating the system however I NEVER ask for the baristas to top off my iced quad extra ice 4 pumps white mocha in a venti. Sometimes they fill it up which is a bonus but I don’t understand when people complain and yell at baristas over this. Of course when I get my drink other people look at it and give me a weird look like “hey they’re cheating you by not filling it up”
