Having nails done (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by angelauraquartzz
Does anyone’s store allow them to have their nails done? I’m only working once a week at my store now I got a new job and I want to get my nails done so badly but know one of my shifts will call me out for it. I really don’t think my manager will care because he’s pretty laid back. I don’t understand one bit if you have gel and keep them clean and well manicured

It’s not a Starbucks policy, it’s a health code policy.

I’ve had a bunch of friends work at other coffee chains and they have their nails done. I don’t see why we shouldn’t be able to have them professionally done.

It's a HEALTH CODE policy, no coffee chains should be allowing nail varnish. I don't want your chipped nail varnish in my drink. Literally, it is a Food safe thing

Then maybe we should start wearing gloves when making drinks tbh

Go for it.

I, personally, prefer to just practice good hygiene and food safety procedures and not have gloves making me drop stuff, but to each their own. Lol.

It’s a health code violation to have anything on your nails or have long nails. It’s been like that for every food service job I’ve worked at

Same.

There’s a partner at my store who repeatedly shows up in nail polish despite multiple conversations about the issue, including WHY nail polish is a no-go. She now gets told she has to clock out and leave the floor until her nails are polish-free and if she doesn’t remedy the problem and click back in, it will be marked as a no show.

IDGAF if people don’t like it. It’s Starbucks policy and health code (for a very valid reason). Dislike it all you want, you can abide by it or you can not work. I have no desire to have someone’s nail polish, long-ass finger nails (gel or not), or dirt and funk from underneath long nails getting in my food, so I certainly don’t expect paying customers to be ok with it.

Not to mention that if Food safe saw it, that's a critical your (not you specifically) sm AND ssv would be documented over your (again not you) love polish and fancy unsanitary nails.

Also who voted this down?

Like people said, it’s health code violation. If you want them, wear gloves. That’s the only case in where the store I work at allows it.

Health code violation. I've got a cosmetology license and I don't care what anyone says, you can't keep them clean enough to be safe and if you have chipping nail polish that falls into a drink and you don't realize it, that's freaking nasty. Use the golden rule principal, even if you've never touched anything with your nails and actually stayed sanitized, do you think everyone would be so fastidious? They would not. And if you were allowed, they'd have to allow everyone, even the more unhygienic people. I know you don't want a drink or sandwich made by someone with bacteria teeming on/under/around nails.
