Syrup Bottle Pumps (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by myerselizabeth347
So I had a lady come in today and ask to buy a bottle and she said she needed a new pump but we didn't have any since we dont usually sell them.
I said we have the pumps we have back here that we already used.
She asked why we didnt have new pumps back there. I said we soak them then we rinse them with hot soapy water and sanitizer. She then proceeded to shame me saying thats not how were supposed to do it. We are supposed to be throwing them out and told me that was gross. That she was going to the other starbucks to get a pump. Also that she worked at a starbucks so she KNOWS.
Please let me know. I have never been taught that way.
Again I think I have sold maybe 3 bottles in almost the year I have been here.

If someone buys a bottle of syrup, we give them a pump if they request it.

But as stated in the previous comment, you should not be rinsing water or anything else through the pump. You can move a pump from a bottle to a like bottle (same flavor), and replace the pump as needed. The exterior of the pump can be rinsed with hot water, but water should not go inside the pump.

Okay, so. No, I’m pretty sure we’re not allowed to sell pumps to customers. Something about how then they would know our recipes or something. Also, you should definitely be throwing away and replacing the pumps on your syrup bottles!! They are never supposed to be rinsed or washed and technically should be replaced with every new bottle, but that’s not realistic so some stores just set a certain amount of time and then all the pumps get replaced unless one is lookin particularly crusty.

I work at kroger and at target so I was trained wrong and I didnt know what to say or do. I know we have ordered and replaced our pumps but we dont change with every new bottle. I'll have new ones ordered soon (I dont do the ordering so I can suggest it). I just wanted to clarify. Since I have gotten on this reddit I have learned so much.
