I have a quick question. I ordered 16oz black iced Americano from Starbucks in my own cup...and was charged $5.00 for it?? The menu didn’t list Americanos, so I couldn’t see the price beforehand and just was confused as to why espresso and water was so expensive. Is that the normal price? (self.starbucksbaristas)

You could always check on the app. Different locations vary on the prices!

Thanks, I will do this in the future!

That seems pricey.

Just purchase an espresso(or double) and ask for ice water? Then pour the ice water into your cup yourself. Could save about half of that cost likely?

Personal cup. Maybe they are trying to remove plastic waste from their life?

Then they could just bring 2 reusable cups. I'd do that if it saves me half on a drink.

doesn’t actually save you that much money. starbucks charges based off the number of shots. price difference for a tall americano vs. a grande americano is about 40 cents CAD. (also, the drink definitely should not have rung out to 5 dollars)

Considering that double shots are usually about $2.50, that's half. And I'm sure the Americano only has one shot, which should be under $2. That's $3 saved and even if they charge for water, it's saving over $2 from what he was charged.

I know some people would look down on this(don't know why. Social pressures?), but you're getting the exact same things for less, just with the added step of pouring it yourself.

I'm not telling op to go do this, but was giving another option since $5 does seem too much and it literally is just adding water to espresso.

i work at a starbucks , and each size up for an americano adds another shot. so they don’t charge for water, they charge for espresso shots. getting a grande americano rings up as the same price as just getting a triple espresso

Don't be this person, please.

Why? It's not asking anything extra of the baristas, it's not a special order, and it saves this person money
