Would you recommend sbux to a former partner? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by AgeismyCSscore
I worked with SBUX from 2008-2015. Sometimes it feels like a rosy, fun experience in hindsight, but then lurking on here and /Starbucks gives me a bit of PTSD & despair for baristas and the current state of working for the company.

I've been in a tight spot for a while and struggling with depression. Kind of just want to get out of the house and be productive and around people.

All that to say - is there anything worth coming back to? Should I approach some local SMs, or look elsewhere?

Feel free to PM me if publicly stating your opinion / experience puts you at risk. 🙄

Would depend on the location. But my current store, one of the shift leads just loves to bully you. When she gets angry, she'll find a mistake and just let it go on you. Like today. Making drinks, very busy morning. She turns to me and says "you always make the drinks wrong, you are horrible at quality control, you let the espresso beans go low, you always make mistakes".

Told her I was sorry, I'll work on it. I'm having a bad day. She replies back with "having a bad day? I'll find someone else who will do quality work".

Okay, sure. Please do. We have 3 partners that have been at our location for 6 + months who can't make any drinks and don't remember any of the recipes. Yet, I've been there 3 months, am a barista trainer, and my SM has mentioned to another shift that I'll be promoted to shift soon.

Only thing I can say is. Every local is different, but I'm sure each store has at least one person who is very difficult to work with. I would recommend Starbucks if you need healthcare while being part time or even to take advantage of the ASU degree.

I feel like it really depends on your location. I hear horror stories of awful SMs and such at other stores, but all my coworkers are fantastic (with only a couple exceptions, who still are pretty good), so I really love going to work most of the time.

I sit on my arse all week in my gay career job.

I took a weekend role at Starbucks for the exercise and extra cash. I don't particularly enjoy Starbucks in contrast to the badass gig I had 10 years ago but I tell you: Busting my ass on my feet all day is just what the doctor ordered. I go home after a long shift feeling like I actually worked. Been losing weight ever since. (With a blend of intermittent fasting and counting carbs) My mood and my sleep has been better. I'm older now so I don't let the Starbucks shit ever get to me. I can leave at any time.

I used to pull 12 hour days as a server. But the first 2 hours of Starbucks training had my legs in so much pain. You really do use it or lose it. If you're looking to fix your depression, I say stay active. And take risks! (Like using the word gay in a starbucks subreddit)

I'll assume you work at an LGBTQIA office or something. Thanks for reflecting.

lol no, that was the colloquial slang term. Heh :)

Yes, because rando internet homophobia is "taking risks" 🙄

Go unionize your store or something if you wanna be risky.

Suppose I could get an ionic filter to purify the air but how do I remove ions?
