Our ice machine breaks at least once a month...It’s 8:23 in the morning and this is what we’re working with 🤪 (i.redd.it)

Sounds like you have typical incompetent Starbucks management. They love understaffing and playing headgames, forcing you to be a perfect machine who is guilted for wanting to ever take a break or even drink water when its hot, but never actually handle their own shit.
ladielsa- 29 points 3y ago
I can’t tell you how many time I worked an 8 hr shift without a “lunch” because “important” people were coming to our store and we needed everyone on the floor. 🙄
SadistSuma 19 points 3y ago
Is that even legal...? That's not worth the extra half hour's pay h
Schweddy_Bewbs 5 points 3y ago
Nope, it is not.

I used to have a competent manager, and a competent DM who both understood that the cost of over staffing slightly and having things properly maintained and working makes up for itself by not causing us to lose business/cause a high rate of employee turn over.

That was over half a decade ago, but I still miss it.
scumcuddle 17 points 3y ago
This was my store the last two days.. had to buy ice from the store
sarextrashaken [OP] 25 points 3y ago
My manager doesn’t want us to buy ice, so we have to go to other stores and fill TRASH bags full of ice and bring them back over here and fill our ice bins
interyx 20 points 3y ago
Fuck that. Starbucks can afford the ice that you literally need to do your jobs. Our ice machine has been breaking a lot (it turns out the new one they installed has vents on the top that get clogged when you put stuff on top of the ice machine -- like, for example, an ice bucket, scoop, and dridek mat) and the manager made most of the runs to the gas station to get ice.

I mean I guess it could be less of a pain in the ass somewhere else but our stores are 15-20 minutes apart and other stores run low on ice too. Shit the mileage they would be paying out for that would be enough to just buy the ice in the first place.
sarextrashaken [OP] 13 points 3y ago
Exactly!! Like even though we’ve got 4 stores around us including a target store across the parking lot, we still need the mileage to drive back and forth. Buck up the money and replace the machine, the workers who come to fix it every month are tired of it too. And from a customers perspective it’s just like “how THE HELL do you run out of ice??? Starbucks has the money to replace whatever they need”
traumstdu 5 points 3y ago
Since you're by a target are you by any chance near a chick-fil-a? When we run out of ice we buy it from them AND they deliver! They give us a neighbor discount so it's like $1.50 for 5lbs. A paid out for that is so small (like $13 to fill boh machine + 3 foh bins) your SM won't notice.

Ew! So that means the customers are ingesting gas station ice? Is that up to health code?
stagstar 9 points 3y ago
I’m pretty sure it’s the ice in the bags....which personally I trust more than the bux.
capgrasdeluded 1 points 3y ago
Is there any way you can call the PCC and complain? I tried this before when I had a big issue with my manager and they directed me to my previous DM. But this is like, actual health and safety violations against your SM. I would be going up the ladder of people to bitch to, that's not acceptable.
anotheroneig 1 points 3y ago
It’s an easy way to get mileage and free hours loading ice.
It was my favorite thing to do lmao
elodieme1 1 points 3y ago
Happened at my store, had to buy ice multiple times a day for almost 2 weeks. Our p card got declined because of the charges, so the DM had to get an increase or whatever
mtuck1991 16 points 3y ago
There is a policy in place for emergency ice delivery. Using trash bags is unsanitary, which is why there is a policy in place. We have contracts with companies that will deliver ice. Check the partner hub, and then call your DM. This is ridiculous guys!
spoopy_ruby 3 points 3y ago
Trash bags are actually food safe, though it really isn’t practical to fetch trash bags full of ice from other stores
traumstdu 1 points 3y ago
It is *really* expensive. I posted about how chick-fil-a will deliver ice for super cheap. Of course if they don't have one nearby, yeah, gonna have to go the pricey option. Even the slowest store can afford the pricey.
Kyenne_Pepper123 6 points 3y ago
I completely understand
VegetableParliament 4 points 3y ago
I mean, why replace something when you can spend twice as much fixing it every month for a few years?
sarextrashaken [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Right..this machine is a year old and already been a bigger pain than anything else
JuubinoRyuu 4 points 3y ago
Oof that's *puts on sunglasses* a real icebreaker yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhhh
snailsareprettycool 4 points 3y ago
Oof, similar to my store. Multiple times a week (sometimes day depending on how busy and how dumb the machine is being) someone's gotta run to the store for ice. No fun for anyone and the people they hire to "fix" shit are incompetent.
xianwolf 2 points 3y ago
Can I just say that your username is legendary? If I made a specifically Starbucks username it would probably be lightice. Because bitches love ordering stuff with light ice.
sarextrashaken [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Thank you, lightice. You know I need my ish BuiltInShaker/ExtraShaken!!!
rositalagata 1 points 3y ago
Your poor store :(
Give me an hour, a set of screwdrivers and some cleaning supplies- I'd have that thing shipshape in a jiffy (or at least be able to tell facilities exactly what's breaking).
