Would you rather: higher pay or keep the benefits?(self.starbucksbaristas)

I feel like it would be more worthwhile to pay for spotify premium on our own than keep working minimum wage. SSVs don’t get paid enough for the work they put in either and still only get the baseline benefits. What do y’all think?

There are a ton more benefits than Spotify. I’d rather keep those.

Benefits 100%. I would not have made if very far without the health insurance and tuition reimbursement! Things like Spotify are an extra plus! I’ve found that a lot of people who aren’t taking advantage of the benefits find working somewhere else for higher pay a lot more attractive.

Tuition reimbursement?!
ilovebrandonj5 points3y ago
ASU Online is paid for by starbucks through the college achievement plan. They scholarship 40% of tuition, you put up 60%, then they reimburse that 60% at the end of the semester!

100% pay.
I don’t use any of the benefits other than my weekly bean mark-out and my discount. The benefits are useless to me in my current position, so I’d rather not be making a shit wage.

All you gotta do if you want more pay is to go to Target. But beware, the night is dark and full of terrors.

Honestly, don’t think I’d go to a tarbux ever. The thought of them serving uncut cold brew (which many people talk about on here) makes my skin crawl
StormTheParade3 points3y ago
What? Uncut cold brew can be sold anywhere, I'm confused
sbucksbarista [OP]0 points3y ago
I mean that by standard, they don’t cut it. It’s half water half cold brew but I’ve seen so much about Tarbux just filling it with straight cold brew as their standard
StormTheParade2 points3y ago
Oh...that's...no, tarbucks should be following Starbucks standard so that is just a huge gap in training yikes
daniwhizbang1 points3y ago
God, the rumors are true?? We don't do that where I am, but I wouldn't put it past them. I would not recommend Tarbucks to anyone that didn't enjoy being abused.

>go to Target.
Do Tarbucks baristas get paid more?
daniwhizbang4 points3y ago
We do. However we deal with a LOT is bs that would never fly at a standalone. Do NOT go to Target.

benefits 110%. i dont even use spotify nor is that the only benefit, but if it werent for ASU i wouldve dropped out of college because i cant afford it and getting a degree is so important to me. and ive literally never had health insurance my entire life so like.....ive been able to go to the doctors for the first time in like 12 years so im not giving that up lol

I think younger people like non-asu college students and teens who live at home only see the Spotify as a benefit but the health insurance is decent and most adults need it. Unless you're on your spouse's insurance, you need to pay for your own. They spend a ton on ASU which I'm not personally using, but I respect that investment. Will all of us use it? No, but it's a respectable optional benefit since bachelor's are so valuable and expensive

Benefits mostly for the schooling. I’m taking advantage of ASU and I actually feel like I’m working towards something.

Pay.

Higher pay
Kaywin2 points3y ago
Both, honestly, but let me explain.
Where I live, and in my store, basically nobody makes full time hours except SM and ASM as far as I can tell. I have coworkers who work 3 jobs just to stay afloat (I live in a high COL city.) We baristas make minimum wage, and on average, I make little enough that I qualify for Medi-Cal, my state's version of Medicare.
So the myriad benefits are nice, but the hours are so irregular (both hours worked per week and start/finish times) and the pay is so low that I can't even fathom having a second job. If we got paid a bit more so that I'd have more of a reason to pay for the Starbucks health insurance, I'd be happier and feel better-compensated. I have a college degree, so I can't take advantage of the ASU program, and IDGAF about like 90% of the ten billion other assorted corporate discounts (Skechers, anyone?) that I don't use. If Sbucks had a program like McDonald's, where you get half off your orders under a certain amount, I wouldn't mind making up the difference in a couple bucks' hourly pay. It would also make insurance easier to pay for and more worthwhile for me for the cost.
