No one taught me how to close....Well, that's not true, I was shown in one shift how to do everything. I have most of it pretty well understood for closing, however I cannot for the life of me figure out what I'm supposed to be counting for my closing inventory. I hate any work related to the iPod. I've told my manager repeatedly that I don't get what food I'm counting and how uncomfortable and under trained I feel I am and he just legit smiles and says "okay, you'll get there"... Like bro. No. You need to teach me. So I'm going to go out on a limb and ask Reddit. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK AM I DOING. Am I counting pastries? Am I counting everything? And nothing that's supposed to show up on the inventory management ever shows up so I just do the money, milk count, temp checks and lock the doors. I'm beside myself at this point and just extremely confused/frustrated and it makes me feel like a total dumb ass that this one task that seems like it's so simple just isn't resonating with me. I'm the closing shift monday-friday. I was hired on as a shift a month ago and was just released but the 2 weeks of shift training was just me working as a barista and taking the complaints. I'm desperate. And yes I've asked for more training but he just doesn't seem to take it seriously. Help me. Please. Because if he starts to get mad that inventory isn't being completed I will lose my shit and my job. 🙃🙃🙃🙃

So for a regular food count (the one that shows up every other day): in freezer means all pastries and breakfast sandwiches that are in your freezer. (at some stores this entire count will be done in the morning, at other stores only the breakfast will be counted and you'll have to do pastries at night). This one is super simple. You want to get it done BEFORE your delivery comes. It does not include items that come in your evening delivery. If you don't get it done before your delivery comes, just exclude anything that came in the order. Just scan every box and input the number. Either 1 full case or whatever is marked on the box as remaining.

For out of freezer: count all items that are CARRYING OVER. This means anything with tomorrow's day dot or later. Anything with today's day dot should be going out tonight and won't be included. This means any pastries currently on your pastry cart and any breakfast sandwiches in your warming fridge. It DOES NOT include anything from the pull that is for tomorrow. Whatever pastries you pulled and whatever breakfast sandwiches were pulled in the morning, do not count those. For RTD&E same thing, include anything that is carrying over, disregard anything that is going out tonight. For RTD&E that means anything with TOMORROW'S date (things with tomorrow's date go out tonight)

Department counts are hella annoying. You'll have to a bit of hunting. Many of the items are scannable on the iPod. Merch, 5lb beans, 1lb retail beans, and many others will be scannable with the iPod. Anything that you can't scan or that is confusing for you, you can access the department count on the partner hub, click on the item, and sometimes it'll have a description. Sometimes it won't and you'll have to make your best guess. Milk department counts you can just your numbers from your milk count. It includes all milk currently in the store, FOH and BOH.

God I'm sorry this is so confusing, if you need more clarification or if I didn't answer your question at all let me know

Yes, thank you. We do breakfast count in the morning and pastries at night, you're a life saver. Hopefully tonight I can get it all together and actually do a complete close. I dont know why it just isn't clicking for me. It really doesn't help that no one took training seriously. I've been there for almost 2 months and I have to ask the senior baristas about our cold brew par and prep measurements. I don't get how I'm supposed to be supporting the next shift when I don't even know what to do on my own shift.

Honestly it was the same for me. Every day I was asking other shifts about the counts. It sucks, but it will eventually click and all make sense. I totally get that sense of confusion at first though, trust me you'll get it! Also, not sure if I mentioned it, but your in freezer pastry count happens before your evening pull :) good luck!
