Ok so at my store a few of this SSVs keep telling me that batch blending is “against Starbucks policy”. However, I can not find it ANYWHERE on the Partner Hub. Like, there are 8 steps to putting a banana in a blender (which we never follow) but there isn’t anything on putting two frapps in a blender.
Their argument is it “goes against handcrafting each beverage one at the time”.
My argument is frapps come out in different consistencies all of the time depending on the types of syrup and other stuff you add so there really isn’t any uniformity anyways. Also, if someone orders 3 tall vanilla bean frapps in DT I’m not going to waste my time or the customer’s time making each by hand individually it’s all going in the same blender.
So anyways, my question is: Is there anywhere where they say it’s against policy and what’s your opinion on batching?

I think on the blender instruction stickers (or on the cards, I don’t recall exactly) it says ‘blend only one beverage at a time’. I’m a SSV too and I batch blend every chance I get. While I understand the safety reasons and the Starbucks Experience reasons of doing them one at a time, it’s just not efficient or sometimes even feasible to avoid batch blending during a rush or a happy hour.
My suggestion is just don’t do it where your SSV could see. That way, you don’t have to deal with the lecture when you know damn well you’re not gonna stop, lol

It’s against policy, but it’s sometimes very necessary. It’s mostly I believe to prevent too much being blended at a time to the point the lid comes off and makes a mess. When I was a trainer I’d always tell my baristas that I have to tell them that blending more than one at a time is against company policy, then wink and batch blend in front of them.
Though with your standard fraps, they should be consistent it thickness and such. If you’re finding they’re inconsistent you might be making those drinks incorrectly. One common example I can think of is chai cream, many baristas pour milk in cup then add chai in the blender. You should be pumping chai into cup first (like frap roast) then milk to bottom line due to the volume of the chai syrup if done opposite it’s too much liquid compared to ice. Or fraps with espresso, frap roast, espresso, milk, then in blender.

It is against it lol I'm a ssv but idc I encourage people to do it because I'm not getting screamed at because starbucks wants to make the moment right

I'm really sad that ppl are downvoting comments against batch blending. :( I dont batch blend it messes up my routine, and I take pride in making every one of my drinks separately. It doesnt take me a long time either cause I'm pretty fast at it. I guess I'm a square for feeling this way but this is my job, how I was trained. I'm gonna do it right. Even if I have 10 frappuccinos in front of me and they're all the same drink, I'm not doing it. I can guarantee that all my drinks will come out fast and right! Also customers appreciate it, seeing all those drinks in front of me and not taking the easy way out lol

175xxxx here.
Yes, it is against policy. Policy is to follow the beverage routine, and batch-blending does not so that.
I don’t batch blend, because A) it screws up my BR rhythm, and B) I don’t feel like it makes the same drink for the customer as single-blending them properly does. And C) who cares! Why do you need to batch blend? It hardly cuts any time, and speed isn’t the goal here: beverage quality is.
sparrrows11 points3y ago
Speed isn't the goal? Ooohhhhh ok so we actually dont have to be under 50 seconds during peak??? Thanks for the info ill let my dm know 👌
Btw that was sarcasm :)
SongsofdaSiren-1 points3y ago
If you have to remake every third drink, speed isn’t your issue.
My DM doesn’t care about times, she cares about happy customers.
sparrrows9 points3y ago
Who said I was remaking them though?? Batch blending in my experience hasn't effected the quality whatsoever.
And that's great your DM doesn't care about times! Mine does :)

185XXXX here, and I honestly can’t imagine that you’ve worked anywhere else than a very quiet café store, because the Starbucks DM’s that I have worked for, have /always/ included speed of service as an important marker in our customer satisfaction scores and customer feedback. Literally always.

Have you tried a drink thats been batch blended with 2 others? It tastes so watery and gross.
I worked with a girl once who proudly held up a full blender saying "See? Three venti frappaccinos DO fit!" and then my SM came up behind her and made her dump it in the sink.
