I want to quit Starbucks (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by rolizzl
I have been at Starbucks for almost two months now and it’s stressing me out. I have another side job and I hated it at first, but I eventually started loving it whereas it’s the opposite for Starbucks. Everyone has been super nice to me, but there’s two or three people who I feel don’t like me and they’re very obvious when they’re frustrated with me and that lowers my self esteem a lot. My past few shifts have been stressful as hell and I don’t think that continuing will be a great thing for me because I’m the type of person who will think hardly about something and dread it out if I don’t come to a decision. I’ve already talked to my SM about quitting (I didn’t know I had to give a two week notice until I asked my friends if I should quit) and she wants to have a sit down and see what we can do for me, but I honestly don’t feel confident enough to continue plus adding that I’m a senior in high school and I have a lot of my plate as well. Can anyone give me some advice?

Honestly I hated Starbucks for the first few months. After six months it got way better. If you don't feel that way you can switch stores after six months as well. You are a senior in HS, and so was I when I first started at Starbucks. This job makes it easier for you to have a guarenteed job if you move away from college. You can also get promoted and you'll already be on track.

BUT if you hate it, it isn't worth it. You can ask your manager to cut back your hours for now and if you can only work certain limited days/ with certain people.

Good luck!

If you don’t necessarily NEED the money of a second job then i think you should go with your gut and go through with leaving. Buuut there is also the option of transferring stores, which might be better for you if you want to stay with the company! I understand the work environment really does make or break the job, some stores are simply just more welcoming than others. It can put even more stress on you if you decide to stay at that location, it’s all up to your circumstances. I will say switching stores might be a good path to go with first if you’re not sure of quitting, i had the same issue and it really resolved it for me and i am much happier at my new store!

You're in a stressful period of transition already in your last year of high school.

If you dread Going and hate Being there, you should get out of starbucks. There are other jobs if you need the money. You shouldn't be hating that much of your life. If you like the job but not the people, then you could consider transferring.

i hate so many things in my life and starbucks is beginning to be one of them. i was thinking about transferring but i honestly don’t know if working at different will be beneficial because i work at one thats closest to my home/school. if you’re okay, can i rant to you on private message on here?

Honestly the first couple months are so hard. The more time you give it there better it will get. But also, you could maybe find a different store and transfer. I've gotten really lucky and I love pretty much everyone at my store, so it's great. Maybe you just need to find a store where there's not people that will bring you down.

I’d suggest you cut down your hours and tell your manger the people that are also making the environment tougher for you than it already is first. Odds are someone in your store probably feels the same way about them too. Letting go of something is really tough for me too so I understand but knowing what’s best for you is good too. It makes me upset that partners are being like this. why make other feels uncomfortable to a certain extent like lower your self- esteem? I’d absolutely tell your manager literally. A problem like that definitely needs to be addressed since they’re so open to making their feelings about you known and it shouldn’t be like that. You’re manager can keep it on the low not name any names and talk to them about it. A last resort is depending where you are if you’re drive you should think about going to a cafe or working later hours if that works for you. I’d had experiences where I didn’t want to come into work when I was barley starting out like you and it could be also the location depending where you are you can go to a cafe or to a different one. Starbucks can be really stressful when you’re knew but once you get the hang of it with supporting partners it could be a fun time. I really hope this helps out you shouldn’t go through shifts like that.

forreal, i appreciate your reply. you really seem to understand what i’m talking about. and honestly it’s the worst when a coworker is more frustrated at you than a customer is. i want to continue with starbucks but i think i should quit for the time being and if i’m comfortable, i would rehire in the future if i’m up to it. if you’re okay with it, is it okay if i can message you if i have more to talk about this matter?

Yeah no problem! Customer can make Starbucks a tougher but the relationship with your baristas is a make it or break it job. It’s nothing like a horrible relationship with three partners to leave a job if it’s like that. and honestly I really do know the feeling and it sucks.
