Calling all partners in the midwest region. Can we please discuss this DPI strike??(self.starbucksbaristas)

So delivery drivers are striking because of the 7-month contract DPI drew up and the drivers are demanding a longer contract. We were lead to believe that our food deliveries were going to be halted and deliver through Penske, but we would still get milk and RTD&E from DPI. I should also note that my store is very high volume and we get dpi every other night. We’ve been without food for days and it’s unbelievably frustrating to tell every single customer “I’m sorry, but we have no food items to offer at this moment.” Starbucks literally gave us a dialogue to tell customers. “Starbucks is aware of the strike but we are not a party in the negotiations. We are working quickly to find another distributor.” Last week, I personally asked my delivery guy (he’s really chill and all the closing ssv have a good relationship with him) why he was still delivering for the company and not striking. He told me that no one is striking, yet. And that there’s an entire warehouse full of frozen food to be delivered - Starbucks just isn’t putting in the orders. This seems sketchy to me and I feel like there’s something they’re not telling us. I found an article based in Chicago that features a DPI spokesperson saying that he doesn’t know why starbucks is blaming DPI. They’re holding up they’re end of the contract. It’s simply a matter of Starbucks not putting through the food orders. Has anyone else looked into this?

Our dpi guy told us he can’t afford to strike. But tons are. We are not getting milk. We are going to jewl. We just get like 8 breakfast sandwiches every other day. This is the company that delivers our stuffs problem. Not Starbucks. We are putting in orders but they will not receive because they are on “strike”. I honestly stopped caring and we are getting tipped more because our customers honestly feel bad for us. Starbucks can’t do anything about this. It’s the company that delivers to us, that needs to give the workers what they want. It’s my understanding that they are working on it. I’m just here doing my job. Lol

Our dpi guy told us that no body is striking yet, but Starbucks wants us to tell people that they are. It makes me feel like starbucks wants to paint dpi in a bad light and place the blame on them. We’re aren’t placing food orders through dpi, we’re placing them through Penske which is based out of Cleveland. But why are we doing this if there’s a warehouse full of food that dpi would deliver if we simply placed orders through them?

Dunno my dpi guys who aren’t striking told me people are they just can’t afford too. So who knows. Lol I don’t even care. I am letting them figure it out lol

People should care. I don’t want to work for a company that is pressing us to tell customers false information. It’s unethical.

Eah. Lol I have been doing this for way too long. I think they aren’t lying I think it’s just different on different areas and no offense you are Overthinking it. It’s just another thing. It will work out.

Taking a quick news article search, it looks like things are a bit more complicated:
From what I interpreted, Starbucks isn't planning on using DPI long term and wants to switch to a different company. As such, DPI can't offer a long contract to Teamsters (the union).
Teamsters are in a legal strike position but no action has been taken yet (hence why their employees are still delivering).
What you said about Starbucks makes sense, my guess is that they're trying to accelerate the transition from DPI to a new supplier.
Edit: Technically Starbucks statement is truthful. They're aware of the strike, not a participant and working towards a new supplier.

But starbucks wants customers to believe that the reason we don’t have any food is DPI’s fault, when in reality, it’s their fault. Starbucks is trying to put the blame on DPI and I think it’s wrong and untruthful.

Exactly. There's definitely some PR going on here by Starbucks.
Phrasing things to blame the supplier and their union is a lot better than saying "We're switching suppliers and are out of stock of items right now. "

Yes!! Exactly!! I don’t understand why they aren’t being truthful.

Lol omg it was my second day today and I knew we were having “issues with our distributors” but I didn’t know why
Emkitcat1 points3y ago
I was told yesterday that we will be able to order as normal on Tuesday to begin to get regular orders on Thursday.

Yeah, my store is out of food other than 2 sandwiches. We are still getting milk and drink supplies but not anything else. Our guy didn’t say anything about the strike on particular except what you said about the contract being up. We aren’t sure what to do, no idea how much longer this will last.

You guys haven’t been getting food? My store was told that Starbucks was putting in auto ship orders for everybody, so every location has the same things. We’ve been getting our food, it’s just not exactly the things we need. But we have some.
