how long until it gets easier(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lstmyhd
I had my first day at starbucks today and it was and eight hour shift. It wasn’t impossible but it was a lot and overwhelming and I was only making basic drinks. How long does it take to get used to the flow of things there bc idk today was very overwhelming

Honestly, it’s wild that you were making drinks your first day. Lots of stores won’t even do that unless you seem pretty competent already, so that’s a good sign.

that is wild, all i did was half computer training and half cs

It’s okay! Give yourself a few weeks and it’ll slowly all come to you. Everyone knows you’re new, and hopefully they remember how stressful those first few weeks were

Yeah I’m almost 2 months in and honestly the weeks go by so slow and are very overwhelming but I’m cafe bar during peak now at a relatively busy store so things get a lot better within about a month

Congratulations! Honestly, everyone learns at a different pace, but having a friendly work environment and actively engaging to learn new things helps immensely. It’s okay if you run into a few mishaps along the way <3

honestly good luck, im almost at two months and i about to quit because i cannot handle the stress. all i can say is keep a smile on your face and be direct with your decisions. referring to one post on here, one person said it’ll get better within 6 months, but you should read what i posted a few days ago about my starbucks experience.

Everything gets easier the more you do it. I worked at a slow store (3-4K/day) for years and when I moved I transferred to a 8-9k a day store. I was so horrible my first few weeks and considered quitting. Everything was different and so chaotic and stressful. But now I look forward to peak and working DT bar or warming. Being brand new is tough. Everything is completely foreign, but as you continue to work your brain adapts and compiled everything. You wouldn’t have gotten hired if you aren’t capable!

I finished basic training only about 2 weeks ago. Even in these last two weeks, things have gotten a lot easier. Learning all of the drinks takes quite a bit of time and I’m not 100% at remembering yet but I’ve improved a lot! I’ve also found that it helps to smile and try to stay as positive as you can. Having a good attitude makes your coworkers day better and makes the time pass by faster. First days are always hard, but you’ll only improve from where you are now! :)

My sm told me most baristas take around 3 months to feel comfortable on bar. There’s a lot to learn, so don’t worry about asking your trainers and partners questions because everyone was at that point before.

It takes a while, but it does get easier. I wanted to quit my first couple weeks, and I almost did. But I've been here a little over four months and I absolutely love it. Just give it some time and stick to it, it gets better.

Everyone's learning curve is different. I've seen baristas proficient at their job within a week of starting (those are rare cases), others as long as 3 to 4 months. If you are showing up and putting in 100% effort I promise you'll figure it out. And once you do the job will actually start to become fun and rewarding, assuming your manager and shift team are fair and decent. Don't give up :)

For me it took getting used to the routine. I totally get it. It took me like six months bc I was in high school and worked like 4 hours a week. I wouldnt worry! It takes getting used to and working those 8 hr shifts will help u get used to it. If you're working more than I do, it should take a few months. When you know most of the shot, syrup and other counts in ur head, you'll know youre good
